Krista did the only thing she could think of, which meant driving to her close friend, Alison's apartment. It wasn't a long drive, but it felt like every second was an hour while Krista was away from Laura. She pulled into the parking lot and rushed up to the door for Alison to buzz her in. She mashed on the buzzer in a full on panic. Alison's voice broke through the static on the other end of the line, "Who's there?" she asked confused. Krista took a deep breath and tried to calm down. She did not do well in these types of situations, but she knew she couldn't fail. Also she knew if she acted strange than people would know something was up, given what it was that she needed to do tonight, that was not an option. "Hey Ally, it's me Krista. I was just in the area and I was wondering if I could use your bathroom? It's girl trouble." The line fell silent for a moment. "Oh, Krissy, I wasn't expecting you. Well if that's the case I will buzz you in." and with that the lock on the door relented and Krista made her way up to the apartment. She entered once Alison opened the door. "I'm sorry to disturb you, it's just that I forgot my phone at home, and well it's kind of an emergency." Krista's eyes darted to the bathroom. "Okay go right ahead. You aren't usually out past dark I was just surprised. God bless her. Krista entered the bathroom and locked the door behind her. She riffled through the medicine cabinet until she found was she was looking for. A needle. Krista was well aware that Alison was a diabetic, and to enact her plan she would need a fresh needle. She removed the safety topper on the point. From there she carefully stuck the tip of the needle into one of the bottles she took from home. The injector filled up with the fluid. A lethal dose. Being a mortician meant she knew the chemicals that would get this dark task done. She waited a moment, about as much time she thought she would need to put on her act. Finally she opened the door to see Alison standing there confused. "Better?" She asked. "Much better thank you. I wish I could stick around, but there is something pressing I need to do." "That's understandable, just try to call next time okay? I'm hardly wearing anything for God's sake." Krista blushed, embarrassed, this was pretty out of character. She hoped no one would question that, everybody gets a fluke right? Krista exited back to her car, the deadly cocktail in her pocket. She tried to think what she should do from here. She couldn't just attack some one could she? No, she needed to go down town. At this hour there should be more than a few junkies walking the streets. She needed one of them to willingly accept her pseudo drug. That would be the cleanest way to get a body to cremate. She shuttered at the thought of playing a hand in ending another persons life, but it needed to be done. There was no greater good in this, only her love for Laura was relevant, and to protect her, this needed to be done. She drove for awhile eventually stumbling upon a lone woman. Perfect she thought. The older woman was disheveled and messy looking. Clearly a drug addict, and most likely a sex worker. Krista slowed, rolled down her window, and hailed her over. High, the woman slurred, "Hey beautiful, you looking for a good time?" After speaking the woman realized exactly who she was talking to. Not some creep looking for "a good time", but a beautiful woman in an out of place luxury sedan. "yes, actually I am." Krista responded weakly. "Well shit beautiful. I don't usually party like this, it might just cost you extra." Krista's heart was racing, she bit down on her lip. Rather then say anything she revealed the needle in her pocket and waved it in front of the woman. "Well shit Darling that's all you needed to say. I've been sick a few days now, that's just what I need to come off it." "Back seat please." Krista replied. The woman replied by hopping in the back seat. Krista pulled back out into the road, and they disappeared into the night. "So anyways I'm Savanna. I just do this sort of thing on the side. I take heroin for my back pain, having four kids will do that to you. No insurance, damn Trump!" Krista tried not to listen. She did not want to know this persons life. She tried to imagine her as just another client, going through the process of turning to ash. I was not going well, and all Krista could do to strengthen her resolve was to think of Laura. "We could talk, or we could party..." Krista reached into the back with the dosed needle. "If that's you you roll I'm down." Savanna grabbed the needle, tapped a vein, as if she had done it many times before, and shot herself up with the intention of getting high. I didn't take long for her to realize something was wrong. "Hey, I don't feel so good. My heart is all slow, and my brain is fuzzy." Savanna slowly drooped over in the back seat struggling to stay awake. "Just hang on. We are almost there, I will look you over in just a few." By then it was already too late. Savanna's eyes closed, and Krista knew they would not be opening again. Another check off the list, right? She had her body, and she was just about to pull into the parking lot of her families funeral home. Once they were there Krista unlocked the doors. She knew this place like the back of her hand, so she didn't need to turn on any of the lights. She found a cart, and brought it out to her victim. Victim sounded so cruel in her head, no, this was just another patient. She needed to do this, no matter what. She pulled the body out of the car, and put her on the cart. Quickly and quietly she wheeled the body straight to the crematorium. She waited impatiently for the thing to fire up. Incinerating a body wasn't exactly a quick task. She resolved to fill the time thinking of Laura. She was just so sexy how could this be wrong? Krista's inner struggle burned with the same intensity of the flames that consumed Savanna's lifeless body. All that remained were ashes. Krista scrambled to scoop up the ashes and put them into the box that had been set aside for Laura's procession. This was very disrespectful on so many levels, but there was no going back. Krista cleaned up. She drove home, it was late now, she needed to be at work early tomorrow. Exhausted she eventually found her way to bed. It was cold in the house. She crawled under the veritable mountain of comforters on her bed, and snuggled close to her lifeless lover.
