Krista awoke, her arms still wrapped around her lifeless lover. She didn't have much time to get ready for work. Her heart told her to stay just a little longer. To her, this was bliss. She tried not to think about the night before. As far as she was concerned she did what she had to do. In love, how could that be wrong? She did know she had to get to work, so she pressed her lips upon Laura's forehead once again and said, "I will be back my love, duty calls." Her eye lingered for a moment. Yes, this was right, because it was love. Krista dressed in haste. She jumped into her car and drove straight to work. She tried her best to seem casual, but eventually her father came to talk to her. Shit. She hoped she had covered all her bases, but everything happened so quickly, would she get caught? That would drag her family's name through the mud, it simply wasn't an option. "I see that you stayed late and cremated the body yourself last night." Her father stood in the door way of her office crossing his arms. "You didn't need to do that, Krista, is everything okay?" Krista could feel the blood rushing to her face. She didn't know what to say. He was such a sweet man to her, and she didn't want him to suspect her of anything. "I couldn't sleep... I came back to get a head start on the day, papa you know how much I love what I do." He smiled slightly. "Yes, I do very much, but I think you need some time off." He said in a very matter of fact way. "You know what? You're right. I've actually been working on... a project. I've been thinking about taking a few days, if you think you can manage here without me." Krista's voice cracked, she was not used to this sort of thing, and her sheer discomfort was obvious. "Well, I can tell something is going on with you, so absolutely! Take a few days to figure it out. Put yourself out there a little bit. I want you to be okay sweet heart." Krista smiled, "thanks dad." She jumped up and gave him a hug. Things got easier as the day progressed. Krista attended to her daily tasks, the whole time she was thinking about Laura. She day dreamed about them being together, how magical it could be for them to lock lips and sink into each other's grasp. She never felt so sexually energized in her entire life. As excited as she was to get back home to Laura she couldn't help but wonder if she chose the right target. A sex worker/ drug addict seemed like a good choice, but still she was a mother. Krista winced at the thought. Would there be an investigation? Would any one file a report. She didn't have an alibi, but then again she was an unlikely suspect. She comforted herself by saying it was an isolated incident. After all she didn't shoot the needle she just handed it to her. It didn't matter. The only thing that mattered now was her relationship with Laura. The day passed with those sweet thoughts and fantasies in her head. Krista drove home to find that the guest parking space was taken by a familiar sedan. It was Alison's car. That's weird, Krista thought to herself, slowly realizing that her best friend was the only other person she had given a key to her apartment to. Oh God. Krista jumped out of the car and rushed up to her front door. It was unlocked. She knew this was too good to be true, how could she look over such a minor detail? She rushed into the living room, and into the bedroom. Alison jumped in surprise as Krista entered the room. "Jesus, you scared me!" It appeared that she hadn't been there long enough to find the body. Krista took a deep breath. She could feel the color draining from her face, but she tried to remain calm. "I wasn't expecting you Ally. What are you doing here?" "Well you were acting strange last night I just wanted to check in on you." Alison replied. She had a worried look on her face. "That's what friends do. Hey it's so cold in here why did you leave the air conditioner on full blast all day when nobody was here?" That did seem strange, and Krista didn't really have a good explanation. She continued, "and this heap of comforters on your bed, it's a veritable mountain of blankets." Alison walked over to the bed and grabbed the blankets, throwing them aside to reveal the naked body underneath. Krista was frozen. Her heart was racing, and she couldn't move in time to stop the scene from unfolding. Alison jumped back in a panic. "That's a dead body! What the hell is going on here Krista? Did you fuck that corpse? Are you planning on fucking that corpse?" Alison had grabbed Krista and was shaking her now. "It's not what you think Ally. Calm down and let me explain what happened. This is my girlfriend, Laura Lynn. Isn't she beautiful?" Alison attempted to calm down, but this was not right. "Beautiful, well yes she would be if she was breathing. For fucks sake Krissy it's a dead body. How the hell did you manage to get into this mess? What am I supposed to do now, I can't be an accessory to corpse robbing." Krista took Alison into the living room and put the blankets back over Laura's body to hide her modesty. It wasn't going to be easy to explain how she felt. The love was so real and true and pure that it went beyond the grave, and she knew in the end that it would conquer death itself. Maybe she was going crazy. Maybe she grew up just a little to comfortable with death and lifeless bodies. Either way it didn't matter, as long as she could protect her relationship with Laura now. She would do anything for her love.
