To celebrate Justin's birthday and his "three-month mark" of sobriety Adriana set up a picnic in her backyard for the two of them. She ordered a specially catered meal, baked him his favorite cake, and strategically placed tealight candles around the backyard.
After dinner and cake Adriana opens the bottle of expensive champagne her mom usually gets for special occasions and pours two glasses. "Here's to you being alive for 18 years and being three months clean." Adriana toasts raising her glass of champagne. Justin does the same and their glasses clink together.
"I mean I don't know if it counts that I still drink and smoke weed." Justin says questioning his 'sobriety'.
"At least your heart won't explode from either of those," Adriana says taking a sip from her glass. She sets her glass down to the side and kicks the ground to start swaying on the tree swing bench. Justin wraps his arm around her again and pulls her closer. They keep swaying until they need to kick the ground again, occasionally feeding each other bites of strawberry.
"I should probably get home," Justin says checking the time on his watch.
"I don't want you to go." Adriana says wrapping her arms tightly around him.
"I don't want to either but we both have the ACT first thing tomorrow morning, we both need to get some sleep." Justin says, Adriana pouts knowing he's right. She gets up with him and leads him to the front of the house where he parked his motorcycle.
"Be sure to do some reading practice before you go to bed" Adriana says,
"Of course" Justin says kissing the top of her head, "You've prepared me well, maybe even too well. Who knows maybe I'll get a better score than you." Justin teases poking her stomach.
Adriana giggles, "Pick me up tomorrow?" She asks. Justin nods and kisses her lips once more before walking toward his bike. Adriana turns around to go back inside.
Before she does Justin turns back around "Wait, Adriana." He blurts, automatically regretting saying anything. Adriana turns around to face him. "So uh, there's prom coming up next month." He says, almost stuttering. "Uh and I was wondering if uh-" he says grabbing the back of his neck, unsure of what to say. "I was wondering, if uh maybe-" he says choking up. "Maybe if you would wanna hang there or something" he finally gets out.
"Justin, are you asking me to prom?" Adriana asks taking a few steps closer to him.
"You know what? Forget it, uh it's stupid really." He says turning his head. Adriana grabbed the collar of his jacket and kisses him gently.
"I would love to go with you," Adriana says. He smirks at his success.
"Really?" He asks
"Yeah really," Adriana confirms
"Uh cool. I guess I'll see you later" He says as he begins walking back toward his bike. His walking a little bit unstable.
"Justin look out!" Adriana warns. He looks back and it's too late. He ends up tripping over his own bike, falling and taking the bike down with him.
Adriana has to cover her mouth with both hands to keep her from laughing. Justin gets up, completely embarrassed and lifts the bike back up "yeah, um see you tomorrow," he says getting on his bike. Trying to leave as soon as possible. Adriana watches as he speeds away again.
