Jake blinked and rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't dreaming. But it was real. Bryan was back to his handsome self. Marshie and Bri landed beside him, while the others came up various paths.
"Jake! What happened? We saw the light and-" Marshie started.
Jake shoved her aside and knelt next to Bryan. He didn't seem to be too badly hurt, but he was barely breathing and twitching. He was mumbling something under his breath.
"Marshie, do you have anything that can heal him? A salve or a potion or anything?"
"Well, yeah, I do, but... Jake, do you want to heal him?"
Jake stared at the chicken lady. "What kind of question is that!?"
"Jake, he killed Colin. He almost killed you. He's destroyed at least three of the gods' temples. He's obliterated entire villages, without remorse. After that, does he deserve it?"
"Marshie, you're kidding me. Bryan was under the control of Kronos. He didn't know what he was doing. He's still a good person. Now that salve."
Marshie reluctantly handed it over and Jake rubbed it on Bryan. He stirred for a moment before opening his eyes and looking at Jake.
"J-J-Jakey?" He whispered.
Jake smiled. "Yeah, it's me, you handsome-"
Before he could continue, Bryan grabbed his shirt, pulled himself up, and hugged Jake so tight he thought his ribs would crack.
"Bryan! What-"
"Jakey! I never meant to hurt you, I never meant to kill Colin, I never meant any of it! What have I done, I'm a monster, I-"
"Bryan, give him room to breathe," Bri said gently.
Bryan stopped his rant and looked at Jakey with tears in his eyes. Jake felt his face heating up, what with the position they were in, but he brushed it off and hugged Bryan again, letting him cry into his chest.
Xylo chuckled. "Should we leave you two alone? Give you some privacy?"
"You are not helping."
"Still, should we? I feel like you guys have a lot to talk about," Kaykrae agreed.
Jake met Bryan's eyes and nodded. He helped him up and led him to the docks.
The sun was setting, giving off a peaceful vibe. Strange, since just 20 minutes ago, they had been fighting a life-changing battle. Bryan and Jake sat next to each other in silence. Jake hadn't planned on what to say. He hadn't expected all of this to come so fast, after all.
Finally, he asked, "What's it like? Being controlled?"
Bryan didn't answer at first. After a few seconds, he said, "It's like watching a movie of your life, and you can't even press pause. It's a nightmare. I was practically a prisoner in my own body."
Jake didn't respond. He imagined a situation like that and flinched impulsively. Bryan blinked back more tears.
"Jakey...why didn't you let me die? I deserve it. I did so many horrid things, I nearly killed you...why save me?"
"Cause I know none of that was your fault."
For the first time in months, Bryan smiled seductively. "And cause you can't resist me?"
Jake laughed. "You know, I missed this."
"Me being creepy?"
"You being flirty. Oh, and I also missed this."
He threw one of his arms around Bryan and pulled him closer. Ever so slowly, he lifted Bryan's chin, being taller than him, and passionately kissed him. Bryan immediately wrapped his arms around Jake's waist and kissed back.
They stayed that way for about 3 minutes. To Jake, the time didn't matter. All that mattered was Bryan being back to normal and them loving each other.
When they stopped, Bryan sighed in contentment and rested his head on Jakey's chest. Jake blushed and let him rest. He needed it. They both did.
