Tulsa, Oklahoma. A large city with many secrets concealed beneath its layer of normalcy.
In one specific landmark—Taylor Lee Junior High—we find a group of six friends in the cafeteria, conspiring a plan to uncover these ghastly secrets. They pause their conversation as another group of people pass, and only pick up their hushed discussion once again after the coast clears.
"Alright," says one boy, Keith, "let's go over this once more. Aidan walks to Lance's house."
Aidan interrupts this thought, irking Keith. "Right, then Lance and I walk to Damien's house, Jordan picks up Chris from his soccer game, then Chris and Jordan grab us from Damien's house."
Keith finally regains control over the situation again, and says, "Right, then we meet at my house."
Slowly, almost as though he was afraid to talk, Damien piped up, his hand raised as if he was in a classroom. "Um, I never actually agreed to all of this. I think it's a bad idea. We shouldn't go to that manor, people say it's supposed to be," he gulps, then changes his voice to a whisper, "haunted."
With a roll of his eyes, Keith dismisses all of Damien's concerns. "That's the point, Damien," he says, almost annoyed. "We're gonna prove to everyone that there is no such a thing as ghosts."
There's a pause in the group as another person passes their lunch table. "Fine," Damien grits out, "but if anything weird happens, I'm gone."
"It was your idea in the first place, stop being such a pansy," jests Chris.
"I was joking!"
Jordan laughs. "You didn't sound like you were joking."
At that time, the bell, signalling the end of lunch, rang, startling all the boys.
They all bid their farewells to each other, beginning to go their separate ways. Before they left, however, Keith nudged Damien's shoulder.
"Can't wait, bro," he said.
"Yeah," replied Damien, sarcasm weighing down his voice, "so excited."
