The wind blew as leaves scattered around the dirt area. The sounds of fast padding hitting the ground. A calico she-cat was making her way pass prickly bushes and rocky grounds. A small white kit, squealing, dangling from her mouth, and a ginger tom besides her. Yowls of other cats were heard from behind them. "We can't put her in any more danger Sage," the ginger tom said, turning to the calico cat. "Now that they found out about her, they're going to tear our fur off". Sage sighed. "I'm sorry Raptor". She flicked her tail. "It's all my fault for this". She ducked her head down and started at the ground. Raptor nudged the she-cat's side. "It'll be okay" he mewed. "We'll find a way to be safe, if not, at least we'll die together".

Sage wasn't sure that made her feel better or worse. It did make her smile. Before she could say anything, the yowling grew louder. "Come on!" Raptor yelled as he grabbed for Sage's kit and ran off. Sage followed behind him. Then she had an idea. "Raptor, this way!" She called, as she headed towards a row of prickly bushes. Raptor turned and followed her.

As they ran, They made their way to a fence. A twoleg home layed across it. Sage padded towards a hole, in the bottom of the fence and squeezed through it. She ducked down to grab her hit while it was Raptors' turn to pass. Sage ran towards a red barn, she squeezed through a hole and placed the white kit in a stack of hay. "I need you to something for me, stay here and I promise I'll come back" she said to it. The white kit nodded.

As Raptor finally caught up, Sage nodded at him and headed out of the barn. He followed behind her. The white kit sat in confusion. Why did her mother leave her here? Where was she going? The sounds of yowling made her jump. The kit ran behind the stack of hay as she saw a shadowy figure. "They went in here. Look around" a voice said. The kit took a peek at the figure. There were two cats lookimg around. One was a ruby she-cat, and the other a black and white tom. Both cats wore a collar, with what seemed to be teeth through them.

The kit crouched deeper behind the hay as the ruby she-cat padded closer to her. "Vixen! Do you smell that?" The tom called. Vixen, the red she-cat looked at him. "Smells like another cat Vaper" she mewed.  The kit saw that one of the cats creeping closer to her. Before the cat could get to her, she heard another voice. "Vixen, Vaper, we found them! Hurry up". The two cats fled and followed the cat.

The kit, left alone, stepped out of her hiding spot. She layed beside the hay stacks. 'Stay here and I promise I'll come back'. Her mother's voice sounded horrified. She wanted to believe she'll come back. So she waited.

The sun slowly rised. Sunlight beams shining through the cracks of the barn. The kit was still awake, and felt weak for she hasn't eaten since her mother's disappearance. She didn't see any food around so she started to head out of barn. Only to hear a voice. "Are you sure there are mice here?" The voice said. The kit gasped and went to hide through a crack of the barn, besides the entrance. The kit watched as she saw a golden furred tom kit ran into the barn, with a brown she-cat behind him. "I'm so hungry, I could eat a fox" the gold kit mewed. The brown she-cat chuckled.

The scattering of a mouse makes the white kit jump, and it now seem from out of her hiding spot. The she-cat and gold kit spots her. "Momma look, a kitten" he said. The she-cat stepped closer to the kit. "Are you lost little one?" She asked. The kit didn't answer. She only backed away. "I won't hurt you" the she-cat mewed. The kit stared at her. If the golden kit wasn't hurt, then surely she could be trusted.

The kit stepped out from hiding. The she-cat smiled. "I am Queen and this is my kit, Alfred" she mewed, flicking her tail to the golden kit. "What's yours?". The kit shrugged. "I have no name" she replied.

Queen circled the kit. "Hmm, you have the pelt of beautiful white snow" she mewed. "I shall name you Winter". 'Winter?' the kit thought. 'Winter. I like that name'. Queen licked the top of Winter's head and picked her up. "You seem hungry, let go eat" she said, as she patted to a Twoleg home, with Alfred following her.
