The beach. We all enjoy spending a day on the sunny shoreline with a some friends and family. The stunning coastl...
"How much longer till we reach the vacation house?" My younger brother complained. "Around two more hours, sweetie!" My mom shouted over the commotion of my baby sister's cries. Hi! My name is Madeline Winters. I'm your average 13 year old girl going on an annoyingly long road trip with my family. We've been driving for 8 hours at most already. I don't think I'll be able to handle this for much longer! I glanced out the window, watching the sun set. The orange canvas with streaks of yellow and pink filled the evening sky, the blazing sun slowly sinking across Sunshine beach's horizon. I closed my eyes and fell into a dreamless land of darkness.
"Wake up Maddie! We're here!" My mom whispered excitedly. I blinked a bit before waking up to see the sky had turned a midnight blue and the stars were now blinking vividly. I looked to see the majority of our stuff was gone and taken into the vacation home. I got out of the car with a groan, "Did I fall asleep?" I mumbled tiredly. "You fell asleep 3 hours ago." My mom replied. I grabbed my things and hurled myself up the stone pathway leading to the modern villa I'd be staying in for a couple weeks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I crashed onto my bed with a 'thud.' "Ow." I groaned. I looked out the window to see currents of dark, almost black, blue. A hint of the shimmering moon could be seen from the reflection of the waves. I turned away from the window and got ready for bed. As I was about to close my eyes I heard singing. I sat up in bed and looked out the window. I walked over towards it and opened the hinge that kept me from the voice. The voice. It sounded like an angels. I've never in my life heard a sound like it. As I moved my head closer towards the voice, somebody called my name, distracting me from my trance, "Madeline come here!" I walked away from the window and closed the hinge. I walked downstairs to the kitchen. "Why did you call?" I asked. "Make sure to wear your blue dress I packed for you. My mom said, "We're going to your uncles house." ~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the sun slowly crept and the waves slowly softened, I fluttered my eyes open. The room was bright from the morning sky. I groggily covered my head with my wooly blanket. I scrunched my nose, and before I knew it, I was up. I did all my morning necessities (brush my teeth, comb my hair, take a shower, etc). I sighed as I dragged myself down the stairs into the cold, dark corridor. I turned on the lights and popped some bread in the toaster. ~~~~~~~~~~~ The rest of my family came into the kitchen as I gave them their breakfast. After breakfast was done, I went upstairs and changed into my blue dress. Here's a photo of what it looked like.

Pretty normal, right? ~~~~~~~~
My uncle lived close to the twisty beach, which wasn't to far from our vacation house. We arrived at his cozy villa and went inside. A few cousins and relatives I knew were already socializing and having fun. I stood at a corner and whipped out my phone. I started playing games on my phone until someone acknowledged me. I looked up to see a boy not much older than me. He was tall and had light brown hair. He had normal brown eyes, nothing really unusual about him. "What are you doing standing alone in this corner?" He asked. I looked at him and shrugged. He raised his hand out to me and said, "I'm Laurence, what's your name?" I looked at him and responded, "I'm Madeline, you can call me Maddie if you want though." There was a bit of an awkward silence before he asked, "Wanna go outside Maddie?" I nodded my head and we snuck out onto my uncles porch. "So" I asked, "How come I've never seen you before?" He looked at me and smiled, "My mom's friends with your uncle." I looked out into the ocean. The sun was setting and turning into the deep, dark sky. A figure popped up onto the jagged rocks near the edge of the sand. Now, the strange thing was that it wasn't human. It had the upper-half of a human, yes, but what was so shocking was that instead of human legs, there was a fish tail. I knew there was only one thing that looked like that. Sirens.
