I tugged on Laurence's sleeve, begging to tell him what I saw. He glanced over at me questioningly, "What's wrong Maddie?," he asked. I glanced over at the dull, grey, rocks where the mermaid was, to find no one. I looked around, frantic to find some sort of sign of a fish-tailed women. No luck. "I'm sorry Laurence, I thought I saw something," I said flustered. I stared at the wooden planks beneath me, embarrassed, to look at his face. I looked up after a second to see him smiling a dorky smile. "What're you so giddy about?," I asked him beginning to smile myself. He smiled even wider, "You just get so flustered over the smallest details," he said giggling. I turned a little pink, still smiling. You know that type of person, who can make you smile no matter what? That's Laurence. Although I just met him, I feel like we've been friends for years.

The sky turned a deep purple as we kept talking about all the interesting things about ourselves. "NO WAY!" I exclaimed in shock, slamming my hands on the decks' wooden floor. "YES WAY!" Laurence exclaimed waving his hands in the air like a maniac. We both laughed, clutching our stomach for support. The door leading inside the house opened. A kind, brunette, women stepped outside. She looked at Laurence and smiled, "We're leaving in four minutes," she said. Laurence nodded, "Okay mom!" We both got up and headed for the door. Just before we walked in, he grasped me into a warm hug. I turned a bit pink again, still, I hugged him back, beaming with joy. We walked back inside and waved to each other as he left.

My family left a bit after Laurence and his mom left, returning to our vacation house. Once we arrived to our villa, I ran upstairs and fell on my bed with a sigh.
