~Chapter Thirty-Nine~
~Halley's POV~
The doctors wraps my tiny son in a blanket, and then lays him in my arms. He's tinier than the average newborn, and he's beautiful, with large brown eyes like mine, and wet brunette curls like Harry's sticking to his forehead. Just a few minutes later, they lay my daughter in my arms as well. She's even tinier than he is. Her eyes are large and hazel, a mix of green and brown, and her hair is dark and wavy like mine.
"They're so beautiful, Harry," I say, a huge smile spreading across my face as I turn to look at him. He's smiling too, his eyes lit up and bright.
"And I'm not surprised," says Harry, touching her forehead lightly, "look at their mother."
I roll my eyes at him, "You can never help yourself, you've always got to compliment me."
"And you're complaining because...?" He asks playfully, leaning over me to admire the two tiny babies. I don't get a chance to respond to him, because at that moment, the doctor comes over and carefully lifts my daughter out of my arms, lays her in a basinet, and starts to quickly wheel it toward the door, closely followed by a few nurses.
"Where are you taking her?" I demand, and he stops and turns toward me.
"To the NICU," He tells me, and starts to move toward the door again.
"Why are you taking her away? What's wrong with her?" I inquire in a very mean voice.
"We don't know if there's anything wrong with her yet, this is just a precaution. Because of her size, we're worried about her having complications," The doctor tells me. I don't know why, but something about the way he's talking to me is really ticking me off.
"No, no, no! I don't want you to take her away!" I object, probably getting overly dramatic and angry due to the pain medication that they gave me.
"Ms. Cowell, it's for her own good, and it's very important that we-" The doctor starts, but Harry cuts him off.
"I'll go with her, Hal. I'll make sure she's okay," He assures me, planting a kiss on my lips and a kiss on our son's forehead before walking toward the doctor.
"Okay," I agree reluctantly, "don't let them hurt her."
"Don't worry, Hal. She'll be safe with me," He smiles at me before they all disappear from the room.
I look down at my son in my arms, and kiss his forehead, "Hi baby. I'm your Mama. You're a pretty boy," I smile at him, running my fingers over his head, "Just like your daddy." A few minutes later, Niall, Liam, Louis, Zayn, and Natalie burst into the room, with Amanda nervously hanging back behind everyone.
"We came as soon as Harry called us, we would've been here sooner, but someone decided to speed, and we got pulled over," Liam explains breathlessly, with a point look at Louis. Zayn walks over to me, and looks at my son.
"Hey, Halley. He's very good looking little guy," says Zayn, smiling at me as looks down at the baby in my arms.
"He is a beautiful baby," Niall agrees in a soft voice, tentatively moving towards me.
