Slowly I came to my senses, letting my eyes flutter open to find I was in a dark room.

"Uuuhh," I groaned, slowly sitting up.

"You're awake." A familiar raspy tone spoke, it was the same one I heard before passing out.

A saw a figure standing there and I tried to see who it was, but I couldn't.

"Where am I?" My voice was hoarse and cracked a lot.

"I'm gonna turn on a light, one second."

I closed my eyes till the voice spoke again, "okay they're on."

I slowly opened them, once again groaning as the light assualted my eyes.

I turned my head and met Harry's bright green eyes.

"Where am I?" I repeated and he nodded.

"The nurse's office. You're in some pretty rough shape." He gently pushed a strand of hair off my face before sitting down in a chair next to my ned.

I coughed and felt my entire body ache with the motion, "tell me about it."

He chuckled, "well I can tell you about your wounds. Lets seeee, um, you have three bruised ribs on your right, you actually almost broke one of them. Then you have a black right eye, a cut over your eyebrow on the left. You almost got your nose broken, and you're going to have multiple bruises on your body and be extremely sore for a few days."

I groaned, "I hate them soooo fucking much."

"You're just lucky I'm part of the hockey team and can beat their asses." Harry smiled, "but we should get you home. You're parents are probably worried sick."

"What time is it?" I croaked, completely ignorong what he said about my parents. I know my mom wouldn't care. Hell she probably hasn't even noticed.

"It's 4:30pm." He informed me, glancing at his watch.

"Why'd you stay with me?" I asked, my voice becoming a bit stronger.

"Cause I wasn't about to leave!" He gave me a surprised look, " why would I leave you?"

"Because you didn't have to stay, like it's fine." I shrugged, carefully sitting up and biting back tears.

"Yes I did, now come along I'll give you a ride home." Harry turned around then and began rifling around in his backpack.

I happened then to glance down and I choked back a gasp as I realized my wrists were on full display. Quickly I tugged down the long black fabric and covered them again, praying that somehow Harry hadn't seen them. Or anyone for that fact.

"Liam?" I looked up and Harry was holding out shoes for me. My shoes actually.

"Oh, thanks." I smiled awkwardly and took them with my right hand before dropping them to the floor and sliding off the bed.

I put them on and grabbed my own backpack, carefully setting it on my shoulder.

"Fuck I'm sore." I whined slightly, wincing as I took a few steps before readjusting and walking a bit faster after Harry.

"Yeah, you're gonna be for a few days." He gave me a sweet smile and carefully placed his hand on the small of my back, guiding me along.

I carefully got inside his black Honda before buckling up and getting settled. I didn't know the type of Honda, I honestly didn't care enough to look.

"Make sure you take it easy, yeah?" Harry smiled at me as I unbuckled and got ready to step out into the cool England air.

"For sure." I nodded and gave him a smile back before slipping out of the car and shutting the door.

"And Liam?" I looked back at Harry through the open window and nodded for him to continue, "you can always talk to me. About anything, yeah?"

It hit me then, 'he knows, he fucking knows'.

"Thanks Hazza, you too. I'll see you around." I pretended to be completely oblivious to what he was implying.

"Hazza?" I heard him chuckle and glanced back, sending him a wink," I like it."

"You better!" I grinned at him as I turned and walked carefully back to my house.

I stepped in the door and called out; "'m home!" Knowing no one would answer.

"Where were you?" A small voice spoke and I almost hit the ground. I knew the voice, it was a voice I hadn't heard in forever.

"At the nurse's office." I replied, refusing to look up and meet the eyes that peered down at me from the stairs. They felt like daggers, though they were soft.

"What happened?"

I glanced up to meet my mom's soft brown eyes and saw worry there. Quickly I looked away, 'she doesn't care" I told myself, trying to build my walls even higher.

"Why do you care?" I finally snapped at her, slowly kicking off my shoes, "you haven't cared since dad died, why would you care now?!"

She looked a little taken back, probably by the harshness of my words. Finally after what felt like hours she spoke in a soft voice, "because you're still my son."

I shook my head and threw my backpack at the ground, "yeah well your son just got beat up by the same guys who bully him daily. But it's not like you care, not like you've ever cared."

"I'm sorry for shutting down, for shutting you out." Her voice was small and I heard how it cracked and wavered.

"Why now?!" I screamed at her, watching her flinch. Not that it stopped me, I kept going, my spark turning to a raging flame, "why now?! After all these years of silence or small exchanges, why fucking now?! Why not before?! Why not when I needed you most, like when dad died and my world crashed down and all I needed was you! But you, you left me on my own! Yes, you were here but you were never here! Why?!" My chest was heaving by the end and I had tears streaming down my face, my anger finally released out into the open for all to marvel at.

"Because," she took a sharp breath, "because I'm dieing, Liam."
