Haze was sprawled out across her couch, completely naked with an absolute lack of inhibitions. His mottled skin was on clear display as his chest rose and fell with steady breaths of exhaustion.
His eyes slowly fluttered open, coming to rest on Jenny's scandalized expression as she stood in the doorway of her small livingroom.
For a moment, he made no move to cover himself. Then, he let out a heavy sigh and grabbed the discarded blanket from the floor, tugging it over his lap.
"Good morning," Jenny greeted. Her fingers were twitching with the beginnings of irritability that she had a hard time hiding.
Haze didn't reply. He merely nodded and closed his eyes again.
"I don't understand."
"Like I said, direct communication at this point is too risky. Haze can rectify that. Keep him with you."
"Would you like breakfast?" Jenny asked politely.
Haze didn't reply, but his eyes opened. He stared at her with a gaze eerily similar to that of a cat.
"Okay," Jenny said, just to fill the silence.
She proceeded to prepare a meal big enough for the both of them. Once she had two plates of pancakes, bacon, and eggs, she carefully approached him and placed a plate beside the couch.
He seemed uneasy at her close proximity, only beginning to eat when she had retreated to the doorway with her own plate in hand.
What's his problem?
She ate her food in her bedroom once again. Ever since she had brought him home with her three days ago, Haze had refused to relinquish the couch. He also refused to wear clothing.
Talking to him was like speaking to an incredibly dull child or an unreasonably intelligent pet.
Thank God Kayla has been too busy to pay me a visit. I'm sure she'd freak at the sight of a naked, silent man on my couch.
After the last of the pancakes had been eaten, Jenny got dressed for the day and reluctantly slipped on some socks and shoes.
When she returned to the livingroom with her empty plate, Haze was also done eating. He didn't spare her a glance as she gathered the dirty dishes and hastily washed them in the kitchen.
"I'm heading to the store. Do you need anything?" She asked over her shoulder.
Haze suddenly stood, letting the blanket pool around his feet.
I really wish he would wear clothes, she thought, averting her eyes.
He slowly stretched, his muscles straining as he let out a low groan.
Without a glance in her direction, he silently walked in the direction of the bathroom.
Okay then.
Jenny gathered her purse and exited the apartment. After she purchased necessities from the store, she hastily returned to her place of residence.
Each time she left the apartment, she had been reluctant to leave him by himself without supervision. Taking him with her in public was out of the question. Not only did he outwardly refuse to wear clothes, but his skittish behavior was much too prevalent for a store full of customers and employees.
His daily activities consisted of alternating between laying and sitting on the couch, occasionally using the bathroom, and eating the food she made without question or defiance.
