ELLIE rolled over in her sleep, a sense of restlessness overtaking her. Normally the teen could be dead asleep as early as seven p.m. , like the grandma-ish gal she was However, her mind couldn't help but wander throughout the events of the last few hours, days, and even back to the occurrences over her summer break.

Picking up her phone from her nightstand, the digital displays brightness causing her to wince. After lowering her brightness, a quiet pinging sound erupted from her white iPhone, a message bubble appearing across the top of her screen.

UNKNOWN : Hey, It's Ej
UNKNOWN : I'm sorry, I know it's probably late for you.
UNKNOWN : this is stupid, I'm sorry for bothering you

Ellie's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, turning her head towards her alarm clock. It was barely eleven o'clock, but the real mystery at hand; why would Ej be texting her? A shallow breath escaped her, something feeling heavy against her chest as she saved the senior's number.

She couldn't help but be curious about Ej's circumstance. What could be going on that he wouldn't turn to Nini about?

ELLIE : It's okay, I was awake anyways :)
ELLIE : What's going on?

Twiddling her thumbs, awaiting his response, she took a moment to pull the velvet scrunchie out of her hair. Her hair had, for the most part, fallen from its loose ponytail throughout the night as she struggled to find the ability to sleep.

EJ CASWELL : Can I call you? It's hard to explain

ELLIE : sure

In a matter of moments, Ellie was laying across her bed, holding her cellphone to her ear. She was pulled from her daze as a familiar voice traveled through her ears.

"Hey," Ej spoke, his voice slightly huskier than normal. It was apparent that he had woken up from sleeping not too far prior.

Ellie smiled to herself at the sound of his sleepy tone. "Hey, what's up? Don't you need your beauty re-"

"I stole Nini's phone!" He blurted, unintentionally interrupting Ellie's playful teasing. There was panic behind his words.

Ellie sat up straighter, confused by his statement. "Why would you do that? Couldn't you have just asked her for it?" She questioned, fiddling with the slim fingers of her unoccupied left hand.

"I... I thought she was cheating on me, with Ricky," he sighed, sadness creeping into his speaking. It was obvious that he felt guilty for what he did. "I don't know what to do, Ellie. She's never gonna forgive me," he whimpered, sounding like a kicked puppy through the line.

Part of Ellie's heart ached for him, even though he was in the wrong in this scenario. She could envision him now, with sad, regretful puppy-like eyes, sitting on his bed in his pajamas.

Struggling to retain her serious attitude, she spoke with uneasiness in her voice. "You have to return her phone, EJ, and apologize. But, what on God's green earth made you think she was cheating on you?"

Nini was a lot of things, but a cheater wasn't one. She was too much of a sweetheart to ever be so cruel to someone.

EJ's voice got much more shallow, explaining his thoughts in a way Ellie had never seen before. He often had that dumb jock reputation, and people often underestimated him and his feelings.

"They were in love, for, like a year, Ellie. I-I'm never gonna be what he was for her. I'm never gonna be good enough for her, because I'm not Ricky. I'm just EJ and that's not good enough," he whispered.

Ellie felt her heart shattering in her chest at his words. Whilst Nini claimed to love EJ, it was theatre gossip that her and Ricky would definitely end up back together by the end of the show. It was hard to envision Ej having such vast confidence problems. He was captain of the water polo team, an amazing performer, not to mention that jawline.

Ellie shook her head, even though nobody could see her. All she wanted was to hug the upset boy. "You're right, you aren't Ricky. But EJ is so amazing. You are the best you out there, and don't let me catch you thinking otherwise. If Nini wanted Ricky, she would be with him, not you."

"I'm sorry for calling you and bothering you."

"Don't be, I'm always here if you need me."

Thought I'd try a more casual chapter, until I can properly write. Also, sis has a boyfriend! We Stan happy healthy relationships! We are doing long distance but I think it's worth it, when I met him I just felt so compelled towards his vibe and his personality. Anyways, I'll try to update asap. Much love babies
