"Mom, I'm pretty sure I'm old enough to take care of myself. You have 3 other kids that still live with you"

"Yes, and still in the same state.", she says smartly and I rolled my eyes. "Why are you living in that tiny house anyway."

"It's not that small, mom."

"To hell it is.", she mumbled and I discreetly sighed. I knew I shouldn't have answered.

"It's not like I'm getting married any time soon. I literally just turned 18, and I'm only here for college and-"

"You'll come back to Houston?!", she asked excitingly and I shook my head as if she could see me.

"That's very unlikely. It's different here and I like it, but I'm going to visit, don't worry.", I say and she sighed in defeat.

"I just don't want you to get lost in your head. You tend to do that sometimes." I put my head down and continued to listen to her. "I get it, you have to grow up and explore. I won't hold you back... just be careful and call me every week."

I smiled. "I will, ma. I just need some time to myself. I love you."

"Love you too, Bumblebee." I hung up and sighed.

I've been going down one path my whole life. I've never had any type of alcohol, smoked, and haven't even been to a water park. All because of my dad.

He was obsessed with having perfect kids with perfect lives and I believed that not everything was perfect. Not only that but he didn't like the fact that his daughter was pansexual. He wanted me to be with a man and a man only. I didn't like that, that's not what I wanted.

He died 5 years ago because of alcohol poisoning. No one knew that he was an alcoholic but that was the thing, he didn't want anyone to know that he wasn't perfect.

My phone ringing knocked me out of my thoughts and saw that it was my best friend and roommate, Robyn. "Bitch, guess who I saw during Chemistry?"

"I feel like you're going to tell me anyway."

"Buzzkill. I just saw the hottest human being I've ever seen in my whole 17 years of living."

"Are you going to put her on your 'list'?", I asked with air quotes. I got up to go get a snack from the kitchen.

"Nope, she's perfect for you." I stopped what I was doing. She did not get me a date with a total stranger.

"Rihanna, please tell me you didn't give her my number."

"I didn't." I sighed out of relief. "I gave her mine so that way she can get yours at some point."
