|How to Love The Enemy|

Katie

By the time I have finished packing and getting all of my belongings, breakfast had already passed. The entire morning, my mind has been distant and I can't seem to focus. My only thoughts are about my trip that I'll be leaving for in a few hours.

I need to clear my head.

Stopping at the pavilion to grab a muffin, I go directly to my safe spot. Recently, I haven't been in the strawberry fields as much. Although, now that I think of it, I really haven't been following my usual schedule the last few weeks.

Every day seemed to pass by the same before. Don't get me wrong, I liked having a routine, since I have never been a big fan of change. But then the dare started and Travis and I started dating. Now, we have to go and live on our own, away from home.

As I'm chewing my blueberry muffin, I watch some younger kids playing with the satyrs around the bushes. A soft smile graces my face at the heartwarming view.

I have been at camp for most of my life so I've had to watch over my siblings since I was younger. But, not until recently, I've realised how old we're getting. Annabeth is the oldest camper here and she just recently moved out for college. For Travis and I, this was our last year at camp if we decided to go to college at Camp Jupiter.

"Hey Katie!" My sisters voice brings me back to reality. Squinting from the harsh sun in my eyes, I smile up at her. She takes a seat on the dirt next to me.

"Are you excited to go and live in the city?" She asks me.

I reply honestly. "Yeah. I'm also kind of nervous, you know?" My sister nods. I'm lucky that my sister and I are so close. I know that if I'm ever upset, overdramatic or not, she'll always be there. "You probably don't remember since you were so little, but our time in the mortal world wasn't the best."

Miranda doesn't give a verbal reply; she just nods her head in silence.

We work side by side in a peaceful silence for a while longer. I'm picking off a few more strawberries when she says, "Don't get me wrong, you and Travis are my favorite couple, but are you just a little worried about this trip affecting your relationship."

I glance at her in confusion.

"I was just thinking because you and Travis only started dating recently..." Her words drift off into silence.

I shake my head. "Travis and I have known each other for years and we see each other everyday. Don't worry, we'll be fine."

I give Miranda a reassuring smile. Still, at the back of my mind, her words unlock some of my worries. I have thought about it before...

No. I shouldn't worry myself before it even has a chance of happening. I'll only be putting myself through the stress of it twice.

This was going to be a great year spent with my boyfriend, new friends, and I need to just focus on the present.

...

I spend a few hours working in the strawberry fields, tending to the plants and chatting with my siblings. After, I run off to find Travis.
