As soon as I wake up I hop in the shower. My bedroom has its own toilet, bath and shower attached to it so I don’t have to share with mum or dad. When I get out of the shower I dry myself, wrap myself in a towel, and wrap my hair up in another towel. Then I make my way downstairs into the kitchen to have breakfast-realizing I missed out on eating dinner last night. I walk into the kitchen, open the pantry and check what cereals we have left: none. Dad or mum must’ve eaten the last of the Weetabix. So instead, I open the fridge and grab an apple, take a bite and carry it back upstairs with me. After devouring my apple I chuck it in the bin. I clean my teeth then get started on my make-up. I sit in front of the mirror and apply my foundation, lip gloss and mascara before applying the eye liner. When I’m, finished I unravel the towel on my head and take the blow-dryer out of the drawer and start blow-drying my hair. Today I’m leaving it natural: wavy and curly. After I’ve finished blow-drying it I walk over to my wardrobe and decide my outfit: Today I’m wearing my purple, corset-like top with my black skinny-leg jeans and my ankle-high black converse shoes. Then I walk back over to the mirror and add a purple flower clip, which matches my top, to my hair. I walk downstairs pack my lunch and books and head out the door; mum will probably still be asleep as she doesn’t start work till 10:00. As for dad, he still hasn’t returned.
…
Melissa’s car is fixed so she can drive herself again. I only had to drive her for about two weeks. I always arrive at school before her so as I’m waiting I sit down on the school steps and take my phone out, open a new message and type a message to dad asking if he is okay and asking where he is. After I’ve hit send I look down at my shoes and wait for Melissa. Melissa isn’t my only friend here even though it may seem like it. I’m actually friends with a lot of people but Melissa has been my friend for the longest. I’ve known her since pre-school and our friendship has continued to grow since then.
I look up and see Melissa walking towards me, “Hey,” she says as soon as she reaches me, “Did I keep you waiting long?”
“Nah, I only arrived about five minutes ago,”I tell her even though it was probably about ten.
“Good. I hate making you wait.”
Just as I am about to reply that it doesn’t even matter, I see Tyler hop out of his car and start walking in my direction.
“Hey, is it just me or is Tyler walking over here towards us?” says Melissa, stating the obvious.
“Oh my gosh, what should I do?”
“Hey,” Tyler walks up to where we’re sitting on the steps and smiles and looks at Melissa before resting his eyes on me.
“Hey,” I say smiling up at him and looking into his ocean-blue eyes.
“I can see Stacey over there,” Melissa says breaking the silence, “I’ll see you at lunch then.” Melissa stands up and walks towards the car park towards Stacey, one of our friends, and all I can think is ‘Why would you leave me here when you know it just got awkward?’ but I know she did it to give us some privacy.
“How are you?”
“I’m good,” I say trying to stay calm.
“Are you ready for today?” he asks.
I stand up so I am not looking up at him so much but the thing is he is a lot taller than me. I seriously come up to his shoulders so I am always looking up at him and he is always looking down at me.
“Yeah, I’m ready,” I smile, “So I meet you by your car right?”
“Yeah, straight after last period finishes,” I can see him studying the purple flower in my hair as he speaks to me.
