A New Start

Everyone knows a long time ago...ok...only 13 years ago. Strange powers were frowned apon, we were seen as strange mutants who shouldn't have existed.

I only remember very vividly as I was still a young hedgelet, but I guess it'd be weird to tell you this and not say anything. heheh...well, here it goes, the story of how I met Yoshi, His mom, and how she and her husband took me in as one of their own.

It was the begining of the fall...I think, I mean, the part of the island I was raised in it only had two seasons, Summer and rain. I think everywhere else was fall though, annnyway...I was just doing my own thing back then.

Stealing food, sleeping on houses that weren't mine ha, I didn't even have a house, sneaking on trains, and playing with the children that did except me.

all and all I wasn't that bad of a kid for someone who was a orphan, my parent's went missing at the age of 3 and were never found, honestly I'm still suprised I learned how to survive. I refused to stay at an orphanage because I hated staying in one place and not being allowed to come and go when ever I pleased.

I was always an adventurous child, heck, I'm still adventurous now, but it would always lead me into trouble. Not being able to control my speed at times was hard as I would always run into things, I would hurt a lot.

That day I was trying to steal food from a restaurant, they had tacos, what child wouldn't steal tacos!?...unless you didn't like them. I had just stole someone's order before trying to run off, before running into a young yoshi as his mother looked down crossing her arms.

It wasn't unusual to see other species on the island, we would get loads of tourists because of our weather and nature.

I got off the tiny one trying to run off, but before I could do that the mother, grabbed me, picked me up, and looked at me.

"You know stealing is bad, right, where are your parents? I should be telling your mother about this."

She was giving me this stern mother look. I was panicking, when I couldn't move I would get scared because the most I knew what to do back then was run from danger.

I looked at her, with this worried look and a slight hint of confusion.

"what are parents?"

Yes. I had no idea back then what parent's were, I completely forgot back then being so little. I only learned years later about my parents and that they had went missing.

The mother looked at me while the little one was rubbing his nose and simply said "bastard."

She soon spoke...

"you...don't know what parent's are? who's taking care of you child?"

I stared at her blankly for a while, trying to think of how to respond before saying,

"Wind that blows under my paws and the sun in the sky."

She looked me up and down after me saying that, then hugged me. I of course didn't know how to respond so I just squeaked.

"Oh you poor little thing, nobody your age should be living like that." She then let me go and placed me on her back. "Do you have a name?"

I thought for a bit, before resonding.

"Ogilvie Maurice, but everyone including myself calls myself Sonic because I run super fast!"

She let out a gentle a smile while her son was getting into the tacos I had stole.

"Alright then, how about I take you home to get something to eat Sonic...and give you a bath, your filthy."

I loved the sound of the food but hated the sound of a bath, but I decided to go with it anyway. I was hungry and when your hungry and don't know when the next time you eat is...you take it!

I nodded my head "ok, but what about my tacos?"

She then looked down at her son and sighs "it looks like Yoshi already ate them, I'm sorry."

I looked a bit down because of that but cheered up quickly learning I was getting more food.

"That's ok." I smiled at her and wagged my tail, as the thought of more food excited me.

"Let's get you home, alright?" She walked over to the counter paying for what I stole before leaving with her son and me out the door.
