"It was only once" I said

"Still" Gage replied

I don't think he was all that pleased that I went on a date with Kyle Burkham, but why should he care? Its not like were a 'thing'

I stared at him with the eyes I know he cant resist.

"C'mon don't give me that face"

I smile.

"I should get going im going to be late, I'm supposed to go out for lunch with my mom."

He knows the past with my mom, so he gives me a sympathetic look and just says "Good luck".

We stand up and give eachother a goodbye hug just as we always do after we come to the lake.

The lake has always been our place. When I was 7 he was 9, we both walked down to the lake together. After awhile we decided to jump into the nice blue water. But when I stepped on a broken beer bottle at the bottom of the lake, I didn't know what to do so I stood there balling my eyes out until Gage swam quickly over to where I was standing and carried me all the way back to my little house on the edge of town.

He carried me a half a mile while my foot was gushing blood.

He's my best friend.
