I sit on his old farm house counter with a bowl of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, Gage is staring at me while he eats his.
"What?" I say with a small laugh
"Your so wierd" He smiles back
"How" I laugh
"Just because"
"Yeah, youre not so normal yourself"
"Yeah, but we already knew that"
We laugh and eat our ice cream, when my phone buzzes.
I read as Gage stares wondering who it is.
Its dad. I think I'd better go.
I hop off his counter and he opens his arms for a hug as always.
I slip perfectly into his arms and we stand there for awhile. I hear the steady rythm of his heartbeat.
"Hey. You know your mom is going to be okay without you, right?"
"You know thats not what I'm worried about, right?"
He pulls back slightly and says "Then what is it?"
"I feel as though, its my fault she attempted in the first--"
"Dont say that!" He says loudly yet sympathetically. "You and me both know that it wasnt you that caused it"
I just tuck my head back into the spot in his shoulder.
"Your mom loves you Liv. She just had a weak moment."
"I know"
I dont say anything else other than "Goodbye"
I walk out the door into the dark. Its still barely raining and its kind of cold.
I start jogging all the way to my house. Which really isnt that long of a jog, unless you have alot going through your head.
For example your suicidal mom wanting you back after 3 and a half years of leaving you in the dust.I make it to our steps and walk in our front door.
Dads right there giving me the trouble eye. "Where were you?"
"At Gage's"
"Doing what exactly?"
"Talking. Eating ice cream"
He gives me a slight glare.
"Can I go to bed. School night"
He nods his head twords the steps.
I walk up without saying another word.
