Caleb, without looking, groggily reached for the screeching coming from his nightstand. Once he felt the source, he slammed his fist down on top of it, silencing the alarm. He sat up, stretched, and threw his legs over the side of his bed. Glancing at his alarm, which read 7:30, he forced himself to stand and hobble over to his dresser where he pinned this week's training schedule. He looked at today's date and whispered to himself. "Nine o'clock spar session with Sledge, Thermite, Ela, and Mozzie. All directed by Thatcher."
Caleb had met Thatcher and Sledge when he was first brought to Hereford a month ago and from what he'd heard, training with them was no joke. He knew Thermite from working several missions with the FBI SWAT, and Mozzie was one of his best friends he'd made so far. Ela...Ela was a piece of work. They'd only had four or five conversations in the month he'd been with Rainbow, and from what he noticed, she wanted nothing to do with anybody. He went into his bathroom to freshen up. He hated the taste of his own breath in the morning. When that was done, he dug through his closet and slipped on his dry-fit onsie that he'd wear under his gear for comfort and to prevent chafing. Next came his black combat pants and shirt which fit just tight enough to show his toned body. He sat on the edge of his bed and began tying his boots when his phone rang in his pocket. He pulled it out and the screen read: Mom.
He pressed the green answer button and raised it to his ear. "Hey Mom."
"Hey sweetie! I hope I'm not interrupting training or anything."
"You're not, training doesn't start until a little later. Was there a specific reason you called?"
"Nope. Just wanted to ask how you were and tell you I missed you."
"I miss you too, and I'm doing well. I've made a couple friends. Not to mention I have my own room which is more than what I got back home."
She scoffed. "Ha ha. Sharing a room with your brother wasn't so bad, was it?"
Caleb softly laughed. "It had its moments."
"You know..." He heard worry in her voice. "...I really don't like not knowing where you are."
"I know Mom, but it has to be this way in order to keep myself and our family safe."
"Okay, but just-"
Caleb heard a knock on his door and stopped listening for a moment. "Hang on Mom, I'll be right back." He set his phone on his bed and opened the door to see Elżbieta 'Ela' Bosak who was wearing a grey camo combat hoodie and green leggings.
"Hey." She said. There was little to no emotion in her voice.
He was confused by the green haired Polish girl's visit to his room. "Uh, hey Ela. I told you, you can just call me Caleb."
She stared at him, still, with zero emotion, before speaking again. "I try to stay away from first name basis. It eliminates any chance of attachment."
Huh, I hope I never have her watching my back.
A few more seconds passed before Caleb decided to break the silence. "Is there something I can help you with, or...?"
"Oh, no, uhm, sorry. I was just going to everyone in our training session's room to make sure they were awake in time. I don't want Mike making us run suicides again."
He nodded in agreement. "Fair enough. Alright well, I'll see you in the training room in a little bit." He gave her a slight wave which she returned.
