I have no idea how I ended up here

I have no idea how I ended up here.

My hands wrapped around a microphone as I mutter the three unspeakable words to someone I thought I loved. The crowd of highly esteemed kings and queens staring at me in utter shock. The pain dwelling in his eyes as I turn away from him and run back towards the castle.

Like I said, I have no idea how I ended up here. How all of this ended up happening.

I guess we should probably start from the beginning..

I sit at my lunch table with a frown etched on my face. My brows furrow as I stare straight ahead at Evie as she drawls on about the new fashion trends- or something like that. I'm not really paying attention, nor have I been the entire time the VKs have sat here talking about whatever. I tap my pencil against the table, tucking a loose strand of hair into my braid as the wind blows it free.

"Bev?"

I ignore Mal as she waves her hand in my face. My eyes stay trained on Evie, unblinking.

"Beverly?!"

Again, I ignore the purple haired girl.

Evie has stopped her rambling, her head lifting and a smile settling on her face as she not so subtly nods at someone behind me. I don't bother turning around, figuring it to just be Doug or someone I don't really care about in this moment.

I bring my pencil to my mouth, biting the eraser as I squint my eyes in thought. "What if instead of queen I became-" Before I can finish my sentence a hand wraps around my waist, lifting me from my seat and pulling me into a warm embrace. I let out a surprised yelp, only calming back down when the wind blows and I catch the scent of who had just scared me half to death.

"Hello, darlin'! Beautiful day innit?"

I groan, trying to pull away when Harry pats me on the head like a dog. "Terrible timing, Harold. I'm planning."

"No, no, no!" Mal interjects, smiling wildly in our direction. "She's in desperate need of a break and I'm so happy you came when you did."

"Yeah, I was scared she was gonna drill holes into my skull with her eyes." Evie teases.

I let out a sarcastic laugh, turning sideways in Harry's arms. I rest my head on his chest, sticking out my tongue at the two girls. "You both suck, you know that?"

"Yeah, we know." they reply in perfect sync, sharing a look of amusement at this accomplishment.

"What do you want, anyway?" I look up at Harry who feigns hurt at my blunt question.

"What? You don't want to see me? I can leave.."

He begins to pull away from my embrace, but I wrap my arms around him tightly and shake my head. I bury my head into the crook of his neck and inhale his beautiful scent.

How does he always manage to smell so good?

"No, I'm sorry!" I pout, smiling when I feel him chuckle underneath me.

The pirate grabs my hand, pulling me back down onto my previous seat and we sit together listening as the VKs pick up their conversation.

"So Harry, how's Remedial Goodness going?" Carlos asks, smiling over at the boy next to me. I feel Harry awkwardly shift under me and frown, lifting my head from his shoulder to see him diverting his eyes from all of us.

"Are you still failing?" I ask gently, though it takes everything in me not to start yelling. It's been one problem after the other the past week and while I love Harry to death, he isn't even trying to make things work out here. I understand that it will take time for him to adjust, but he isn't even trying.

He continues to look everywhere but at us which is the only answer I need.

"Harry," I sternly mutter, "you have to work with me here. It's been a week and you've already got Fairy Godmother breathing down both our necks. Believe it or not, but you're my responsibility."

"I know, love. Can we talk about this later?" The boy pleads, finally meeting my gaze. I see the pain in his eyes and that's the only reason I decide to change the subject.

"So did you guys hear that we're getting a new Spells professor?" I question the group, smiling warily as chatter distracts me from the chaos in my head.

What am I going to do?
