I was paralyzed to the spot as Dr. Dan looked straight into my eyes.
"What was my last statement Mr.?" He asked.
I quickly summoned up courage and went back memory lane to bring forth the last thing I heard him say.
"You defined Indifference curve sir." I said with terror weaved to my tone.
He looked at me angrily like the wild beast tangled in a net. His look signaled to me that he probably made that statement long ago; it definitely was, a definition given at the beginning of the class.
"Come again"
"I said you defined indifference curve sir." I said again not minding what I noticed from his look.
"What's your name?" He asked.
"My name is Efosa Johnson, sir." This time, my fear was interrupting my breath.
Dr. Dan just shook his head, ran his hands through his hair and with a grinding teeth he said, "Well, I don't blame you. I just pity your parents who spend their hard-earned money in sending you to school not knowing you came here to be staring at a girl."
He turned his face towards Imose and then I knew it was about to get worse. I was quivering violently like the leaves controlled by the wind. I tried to suppress it regardless; to make it unnoticed hence turn to be called a sissy.
"Hey you girl, the nigga like you ooo. If he never tell you make I help ham tell you now." He said in a flagrant pidgin wrapped with embarrassment. I willed the floor will just open up and swallow me.
The whole class was engulfed with laughter. Some students were even side talking. What could they be saying? I wondered, feeling embarrassed while I prayed fervently, inwardly for a way out of this mess. I was dumbfounded when I noticed, Dr. Dan with humorous sound, wasn't done throwing banters.
"Him don dey look you since. At least for the past 20 minutes, i just dey there dey look ham while i dey explain. If him come meet you, no reject ham abeg. Some of these guys good but them no just sabi toast girl." He mocked. The students roared more in laughter and Jasper shouted from behind me. "Nah Mugu, make him no go get level before them level ham for underground."
Fortunately for me, just when it was becoming more unbearable, tearing and ludicrous, two of our department lecturers, two Security men of the school, four policemen with the Dean of students walked in and interrupted the scene where many got thrilled with reckless jokes.
Three out of the four policemen quickly ran to the three exits and mounted them but before they could carry out their assignment, the class flew into a muss and everyone was shouting "What is going on? What happened?"
It took the skillful and authoritative interference of the Dean of students to calm the situation but Jasper their main target had already jumped out of the class through the window, shattering the window glass into pieces. Two policemen ran after him but Jasper's legs seemed faster than the speed of light.
"That Idiot has escaped but I think we have caught two of them already." The policeman said.
"Caught two of them?"
I asked myself whom the policeman standing in front of me could be talking about. I looked at my right and in turning left, I saw the third policeman holding Bridget while one of the security men who came with them was holding Imose.
There I nonplussed, wondering what she must have done. She was in tears and asking what she had done. A thin layer of sweat covered her neck. Terror washed over her, raising the fine hairs on the back of her neck. I could feel dread creeping out from the pit of my stomach.
