Maria
The next morning, I woke up to a fresh pile of clothes next to my face and a note on top of them.
Gone to get some breakfast, and Haz was given a different client, so we're on our own. I'll be back in about 5 minutes. Get dressed and then we'll head out.
-Tom
His scratch wrist was a bit hard to read, but I got the point. I got up and folded the blanket up before I got dressed and slipped on the new combat boots and the leather jacket from the last outfit.
I racked my fingers through my hair trying to get the tangles and knots out just before a slam on the door sounded and my heart lerched in my chest and I bolted into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. I wrapped my shaking fingers around the handle and gripped it unsteadily as fear and panic clouded my mind. I didn't want to hurt anyone, but I didn't want to die either. I heard soft footfalls coming closer to me as tears streaked down my face.
"Maria?" A soft voice called. It sounded like Tom. I slowly peeked up and over the little island and let out a huge sigh as I dropped the knife and ran to him. I wrapped my arms around his torso and buried my face in the crook of his neck as I cried.
"Woah, easy... it's alright, you're safe now. I'm here." He soothed as he ran his hand down my hair trying to clam me. "Are you alright?" He asked looking me over, once I calmed down, and I nodded sniffling.
"I thought you were a bad guy..." I hugged him again as he whispered sweet nothings into my ear calming me down once more.
"You're safe, I won't let anyone hurt you, ok?" He lifted my chin so I would look up at him.
"Thank you." I sniffled and he brought me over to the island.
"If we're in a safe place and you feel threatened again, just come over to the island and press this button." He said as he pointed at a little piece in the wood that resembles a chip in the wood. "Once you press it, a little hideaway will appear and just stay there until I open it, ok?" He said as I nodded. "Now, I found a McDonald's down the road and brought back some breakfast sandwiches." He smiled at me as he gave me one.
Once we finished eating, we put on a pair of sunglasses and put our hoods up and walked out.We only stopped for some food and batteries on occasion, but other then that, we continued on.
