“I can sense the warmth and vigor of air hitting upon my face…
…As the west side of the mountains revealed a welcoming view of the sea…
With the sunset’s reflection traveling down the water’s surface…
…Along the twilight’s glamour which caused the birds to flee."
My eyes explored everywhere, as my curly hair dance with the wind.
I looked upwards only to see a cluster of clouds forming in mid-air like they’re somehow reachable.
The place is impressingly peacuful like a purity of platinum.
I put my hand on the upper left of my chest, and all I could hear is the pounding of my heartbeat. After a few seconds, IT STOPPED.
“Are you the patient’s brother?” the nurse asked a horrid face of Andrew.
He shook his head, not bothering to say a word.
“Well, can you please call her family immediately? She needs them now”
Andrew hurried back to his car and drove off to the Pollard’s residence.
After a few hours of waiting for news, the doctor came, carrying some papers.
He explained everything about Kim’s condition.
All went silent around Andrew. He couldn’t say a thing. The doctor announced that Kim has Situs inversus (also called situs transversus or oppositus) is a congenital condition in which the major visceral organs are reversed or mirrored from their normal positions.
The normal arrangement is known as situs solitus.
In other rare cases, in a condition known as situs ambiguus or heterotaxy, situs cannot be determined.
Mr. Pollard informed that his wife, Kimberly’s mother, died because of a rare heart disease.
The doctor admitted that some sort of diseases can indeed be inherited.
As soon as Andrew heard about this, he left the room and drove off to his father’s house.
He knocked on the door without anymore hesitations like before.
Like what he expected, Dr. Smith answered and was dumbfounded about his son’s unexpected visit.
Out of nowhere, Andrew fell on his knees, begging for his father to help the girl he loves.
His father agreed, and they both left immediately.
After examining and studying about Kim’s condition, Dr. Smith admitted to everyone that there’s still one option left that can still possibly save Kim’s life.
Situs inversus has an autosomal recessive pattern of inheritance. ...
There is a 5–10% prevalence of congenital heart disease in individuals with situs ... which requires a heart transplant needs all the vessels to the transplant donor heart ... “She needs a heart donor.” He blurted out. Mr. Pollard volunteered, but Dr. Smith said that she needs a healthier heart in order for the surgery to be successful. An hour later, “Helping out your friend is enough my son” Dr. Smith said. “Just do it, Dad! I’ve never asked anything from you my entire life! Now, if you won’t let me… then forget me as your son! …Because if she dies, I’ll die!” Andrew protested. “You won’t die, that only happens in sick fairytales!”, “YES IT DOES! And I promise you, If you let her die… I’ll kill myself right before you know it. “But, but… why? You’re gonna waste your life just for her? Why do you love her so much? I don’t understand” said Dr. Smith, stuttering in his own words. “You really can’t understand because you don’t know how to love!” Andrew weeped, “Just please, Dad! PLEASE… let me do this… I love her” And after hearing those words, he finally agreed.
Then I heard a slow motion of the beating of my heart… like it’s getting back to life. I closed my eyes and prayed. As my eyes fluttered open, I can see my dad fast asleep, sitting beside my bed. I smiled as I stroke his hair with my hand which is covered by a tube and is somehow connected to something. I looked around and realized that I’m somewhere, probably in a hospital room. Suddenly, the door flew open. A tall, old, but good-looking man entered the room, carrying something. I guess he’s the doctor, but wait… I narrowed my eyes in the thing that he’s carrying. It is a purple hoodie, similar to the one that I have given to Andrew. The doctor came closer and asked, “How are you feeling Kimberly?” I replied instantly, “I’m good, but can you please explain why I am here?”
The doctor explained everything briefly to her, but he didn’t include the reason why she survived; not yet, at least. Her father already left the room so that they can talk privately. Much to the doctor’s surprise, Kim admitted that she already knew about her condition; but much to her displeasure, she was not specifically informed how severe it was. She kept it from her father until the symptoms began to appear.
