You have got to be kidding me. Evelyn thought as she took her seat in chemistry. Out of all the people to bump into it had to be Drew Hatfield. If it was anyone else that bumped into her, Evelyn probably would have died laughing, but she had a weakness when it came to guys she liked. Evelyn had a bad habit of falling for people she hardly knew and she found when she tried to talk to them, a ball would form in her throat and all that would come out is a small squeak. So naturally, nothing ever really happened apart from sneaking glances at her crush if she happened to spot them in the cafeteria.

"Hey Evelyn" a voice said behind her. Evelyn turned in her chair to face Steven, he was a friend of Evelyn's in a way your friends with people you frequently sit next to in class. "You're auditioning for Le Miserables this summer right?" He asked. Evelyn let out a sigh. Ah theatre. "Of course, when have I not auditioned for one of The Starlet's shows?" She paused, remembering her past productions with them. Each show she was in, she had been casted as a minor role with less than 5 lines. Granted, Starlets' productions were nearly impossible to be casted in, but she wanted more than a side character. "I'm really nervous" Steven said, pulling her attention back to him. "I don't know how I can beat out all those other actors in auditions"

"JUST BEAT IT." Evelyn sang. Steven raised his eyebrows. "Really? Michael Jackson?" Evelyn gave him a shrug. Everyone knew she had an uncanny ability to pull a song out of nearly any sentence someone spoke.

"You know, I bet I could stump you in your song singing tracks." Steven teased, knowing full well what he was about to do. "Is that a challenge Steven? Do you dare challenge me?" Evelyn placed a hand on her chest for emphasis. She loved bets though she rarely made them. "Indeed it is." Steven said and leaned in closer to her, a look of determination in his face. " If you can think of a Michael Jackson song in less than 3 seconds after I say one word, I will give you my last piece of gum."

"And if I can't" Evelyn questioned although she knew that she would win. Steven stuck his finger under his chin and thought for a moment. "If I win then you have to buy me a new pack of gum." Evelyn contemplated his offer. Well this is unfair. She thought. More the reason to do it.

"Deal.” She said, shaking his hand. “State your one word." Steven gave no pause and immediately retorted. "My word is People. Think of a song. You got three seconds."

Crap. Evelyn opened her mouth then closed it again, unable to think of a song. Steven gave a malicious smirk. "Three, Two, o-" Suddenly a voice boomed from the front of the classroom. “People always told me, be careful what you do, don’t go around breaking young girls hearts!" Evelyn's eyes flung open wide; She did not just sing that.

Evelyn turned to face the front of the room and was met by a pair of bright green eyes staring down at her and a smirk plastered on a boy's face who she had never seen before. Her chemistry teacher, Mrs. Marrow, strode next to the stranger and put a hand on the boy’s shoulder. Mrs. Marrow was short thin lady in her mid 40's who dressed like it was still the mid 90's. Evelyn liked Mrs. Marrow, mainly because she was nice enough to give her a seat by herself all year and Evelyn was always a fan of extra legroom. "I see you met Jason." She said patting the boy on the back. "He's going to be sitting next to you from now on since there are no other open seats." Evelyn let out a sigh and removed her legs that were resting on the seat next to her. At least he's cute. She thought to herself as Jason took his seat in the chair previously occupied by Evelyn’s legs. "Hey. I’m new here by the way, in case you haven't guessed that already." The boy, Jason, started to pull his books out of his backpack indicating that he probably hadn’t been assigned to a locker yet.

Evelyn glanced up from his bag to his face, trying to figure out who had just saved her from having to buy Steven a new pack of gum. She noticed his dark brown hair which was styled at the top of his head and thought of Allan’s comment earlier. Maybe he should cut it. Her eyes traveled down from Jason’s hair to his eyes which were a rich green and reminded her of early sring moss. Ok he's really cute. Maybe new seating thing may not be all that bad.

Evelyn was thrown out of her thoughts by a pair of fingers snapping in her face. "Hello! Earth to weird girl!" Jason almost shouted. Shoot, how long was I staring? At a loss for words, Evelyn did what she always said in awkward situations; She said the first thing that went through her mind. "Go eat pie random kid." She heard herself say and turned to focus on a worksheet she found in front of her, insured that her comment had just ended whatever conversation they were just in. Evelyn expected Jason to do what anyone else would have done after being told to eat pie in a classroom. She expected Jason to get confused, maybe chuckle then go back to whatever he was doing before deciding to speak to her. This is to be expected. Except, Jason was just as weird as her.

"I would go eat pie." She heard Jason say. "But I just came from the Nevada hospital where the nurse said I had developed a strange allergy." Evelyn turned to face him in dis-belief as he continued. "Apparently if someone eats too many frogs when visiting France, you develop an extremely rare allergy called The Piesopi." He put his hand on her shoulder and his face twisted into an overly dramatic frown. "I can never have pie again." He finished as the bell rang. WTF was all Evelyn had time to think of before hearing Steven laughing behind her. "Dude." Steven squeaked between laughter. "Where did you say you were from?"

"He didn't" Evelyn chimed in. "I moved here from Reno Nevada." Jason replied, ignoring her. Their conversation was interrupted by Mrs. Marrow "Jason, as glad as I am that your making friends, I would ask that you would turn to face the class and not waste the warm-up sheet I just gave you." Jason turned in his chair, a playful grin on his face. "Mrs. Marrow" He said placing both hands on the counter in front of him. "I am so beyond thrilled that you care about my social well being. Thanks for making my first day in this school the best ever. Can I call you mom from now on?"

What the hell is with this guy? Evelyn slid Jason a look of concern, not quite sure if what she heard was right. Mrs. Marrow looked completely confused. "no?" She replied as if she wasn’t quite sure of her answer. The class giggled.

"Are you trying to get detention?" Evelyn snapped, her voice a whisper. "Aw she doesn't care." Jason said motioning to Mrs. Morrow. "Besides, for some reason my parents decided to move here the last 4 days of school, so even if I did get detention it wouldn't matter." He grabbed a pencil and focused on his warm-up sheet, ending the conversation. Evelyn let out a sigh, silently wishing he wasn't in any more of her classes. Steven tapped his pen on Jason’s shoulder. "Are you in drama class next period?" Both Evelyn and Steven had that class next. It was Evelyn's favorite because all the class really consisted of was theatre games. Please say no, please say no she silently prayed. "Yes, why?" Jason answered. Evelyn buried her hands into her face. This is going to be a long day.
