"The Truth" (A Garvez Fanfic)

Part One: Luke's POV

a/n: soooo i've never really written anything before so if this sucks i'm 100% blaming it on that

"Luke! Luke, wake up, man. Eat something." Matt wakes me up and I follow him into the kitchen where Kristy is making breakfast. "What time is it?" I ask. "Only 8:30." She says. I've been here since 10:00 last night, after my conversation and break up with Lisa. I just showed up, completely taken back by the nights events.

They didn't push, but Kristy told me since I woke them up that in the morning I had to explain. I think that was more of a joke than anything, but I'm sure they'll both start digging around anytime now.

"So, do we have to ask or are you going to volunteer an explanation?" Kristy asks with a smile, but I get the feeling she's serious. "We broke up." Neither one of them seems surprised. "What?" I ask. "Nothing. Continue." says Matt. "There's nothing to continue. We broke up. That's it."

They both look at me unconvinced. "It's sort of a long story." I tell them. "Well, I guess it's a good thing it's a Saturday and we don't have anywhere to be." says Kristy. "Don't you two have a like eleven kids to attend to?" I say jokingly. Kristy replies with an exaggerated ha ha. "They're eating breakfast in the other room, so we've got some time. Now spill it." says Matt.

I sigh. "Lisa thinks I have feelings for someone else." Once again, neither of them looks shocked. "Who does she think you have feelings for?" Kristy asks. "It doesn't matter." But it does matter. I couldn't deny it last night with Lisa and I definitely can't deny it now to Matt and Kristy. "Okay, well, what makes her think you have feelings for this other woman?" Matt asks.

I know that if I tell him that he'll know who she is, but I'm not sure I have a choice. I take a deep breath and let the truth come out. "I lied to Phil. I pretty much told him that Penelope wouldn't want to go out with him. I also lied to Penelope and told her Phil never asked about her." They both look shocked this time. "Why would you do that?" Kristy asks. I stay silent. Then I see her piece it together. "You have feelings for Penelope." Their shocked expressions disappear.

They look at each other and then look anywhere else, keeping their gazes off of me. "What?" I ask them. They look at me again. Then they look at each other again. Matt speaks up first. "I had a feeling." I let that sink in. I knew I'd had feelings for Penelope since I met her, but I figured she wasn't interested. I pushed the feelings away and started up a relationship with Lisa, but I didn't realize until last night that it wasn't enough. "You had a feeling? Was I really that obvious?" I asked him. "No, not really. I was just paying attention. I see the way you look at her when she's not looking. And the fact that you can't help but smile anytime she says something cute or funny. So, yeah, I had a feeling." He gives me a small smile and so does Kristy. "I've only seen the two of you outside of work, but I have to agree. The real question is why did you even start dating Lisa if you had feelings for Penelope?" Kristy asks.

"Because she's not interested." I reply. "She's been put off by me ever since I replaced her best friend on the team. I put the thought of us out of my head." Matt gives me a slight nod. "Look, as painful as it's gonna be, you need to tell Penelope the truth. She deserves to know." he says. "About me lying to her or about my feelings for her?" I respond. "Both, but especially about Phil." I know Matt's right, but I can't help being afraid of that conversation.

After I finish breakfast, I take a shower and get dressed. I know I have to talk to Penelope today, but I'm dreading it. She deserves the truth, but I'm scared that she's going to hate me.

I hear the ring from my phone and go to pick it up. I take a deep breath. It's Lisa. I answer the call, my voice shaky. "Uh, Hi." I say. "Hi." She replies. It's silent for a few seconds. "Look, I think we still need to talk about some things. I think you should come by." I think about it for a second and realize she's right. Even if she just wants to yell at me some more, I owe it to her. "When?" I ask her. "Whenever you get the chance." She says. "I'm on my way."
