Dear Aiyana,

I realized that I haven't written in a while, I'm sorry. Things have been hectic around here and your brothers are being overprotective of us and won't let me do a thing but it's okay, it feels nice to have someone take over and care for us.

Anyway, we're all excited for you to get here. Your brothers and Charlie have set up your nursery while Sue and Emily took me shopping for more things for you.

I can finally say, we have a home and a family that loves us, Aiyana, I know that you're going to be the most spoiled little girl in the world.

Love, Mom

"Hey! Sorry, I'm late," Charlie said as he entered the living room, looking slightly flustered.

I smiled at him, closing the journal I had been reading, and placed it on the coffee table. "No problem," I said softly, my voice tinged with affection. "You're right on time."

Charlie set a large bag on the table, his eyes a little guilty as he looked at me. "I didn't know what to get you from the diner, so I kind of... went overboard." He opened the bag to reveal an impressive spread of breakfast items. "I got you banana nut pancakes with honey buttermilk biscuits, hash browns, scrambled eggs, and a pork patty breakfast sandwich. Oh, and a blueberry pie milkshake and a large pink lemonade."

My eyes widened as I took in the feast. "Oh wow, thank you, Charlie," I said, my heart warming. He had no idea how much I appreciated these little gestures. It was more than just food; it was a token of his thoughtfulness.

He took a seat next to me on the couch, and I quickly leaned in to give him a kiss on the cheek, my lips lingering for just a moment longer than usual. When I pulled away, I could see the faint blush on his cheeks, but there was something else in his expression. He frowned slightly, and I felt a tug of concern.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked, my voice quiet but insistent. Charlie had been through a lot, but this was different. Something was bothering him, and I needed to know what it was.

He cleared his throat, shifting uncomfortably. "Nothing, really. Let's just get you fed before everything goes cold." He started unpacking the food, but before he could dig in, I placed my hand over his, stopping him.

"Charlie, please tell me what's wrong. I can sense something is bothering you," I insisted.

He took a deep breath, and for a long moment, he didn't speak. I could hear his heart rate quicken, feel his anxiety ripple through him. "I'm just worried about the future... our future."

My stomach twisted, a knot forming at the mention of the future. "Why?" I asked, my voice a little too sharp.

"I don't want you to leave me, Nikki," he finally confessed, his eyes meeting mine, vulnerable in a way that made my heart ache.
