Berlin, Germany
13th January, 1942
Dear Jennifer, my love.
Things have been different, really different. Since moving here to Germany I have learnt and seen many things I thought only to exist inside of a story book. The kind of evil you would never believe unless you experienced it yourself.
It's louder here, if it's not the sound of gunshots that wake me up in the night then it's a bomb dropping so close I ask God each day how I am even still alive. With dad being out defending each day, it's left to mum, Gemma and I to take care of each other. There isn't much an 18 year old can do to stop a world war, I still have my heart set on moving back to England when I'm 20 so that we can be together. It seems so far away but it will be worth the wait, I will finally make you my wife and we can be truly one. Thank you for dealing with this baby. You'll always be my number one girl.
Being here is something that I'd never planned, never wanted. God must have called me to move here for a reason he called my dad here for a reason but why am I here? I'm still trying to work that out. Let's see what tomorrow has in store. I love you always, see you very soon, you'll always be my baby. Stay fighting.
