The next day, after the whole thing with Caroline nearly dying, Caroline comes back with Tyler, a laptop and the sword we got from Italy in their arms.
"Well, if it isn't little orphan Lockwood. Come to show how laughably impotent you are against me?" Nik questions rhetorically as they enters the living room, we stay seated on the coffee table.
"I'm just trying to help my friend find the cure?" Tyler tells him. Caroline and him walk over to the couch, taking a seat, and Tyler takes the sword out of the blanket it had been in. "Found this in your attic." he taunts.
"And you think finding the sword brings you closer to the cure?" Nik questions, looking at the sword.
"You tell me. I was playing around with the handle on the ride over, and I love this" Tyler says, then unwraps the leather on the top of the sword, which then reveals some sort of turning device. This causes Nik to stand and walks over to Tyler.
"And what do you think 'this' is?" Nik questions looking over the new part of the sword then back at Tyler.
I stand up to get a better look at the sword, standing next to Nik. Caroline get s up "It's called a cryptex."." she states.
I look over at her, recognising that word, "Like from the Da Vinci Code?" I asks her.
"Yes! Exactly." she says to me, before turning to look at the others to explain, "You turn the different symbols to get the translation on the other side. And with the magic of the internet, Elena sent over these." Caroline explains as she then shows us printed out symbols on it. "So now all we have to do is cryptex away. If you happened to want help, we wouldn't stop you." Caroline explains as she sits look down.
Nik looks over the symbols the the sword and smirks, "Right. Well, might I suggest using the magic of the internet to purchase an Aramaic-to-English dictionary from you nearest retailer." Nik says to the two who sat on the couch.
Tyler looks to Caroline a bit confused, "What's Aramaic?" he asks her.
Caroline sighs, "It's a dead language. It hasn't been used since like biblical times." she explains to him..
"Qetsiyah's native tongue, I'm guessing. You know, even if you had the best dictionary in the world, it could take days to translate. Perhaps weeks. In bas so-teen-too ara-ma-eet." Nik tells them smugly, wrapping an arm on my waist.
Caroline looks over at him confused and skeptical. "What does that mean?" she questions.
I let out a sigh, realizing what he was doing, "If only you spoke Aramaic." I comment softly, and a bit sarcastically.
Nik grins then looks at me, "You speak Aramaic?" he questions me.
My eyes widen a bit, realising that's what he actually said, in Aramaic, "No. I was just making a sarcastic comment, because you were speaking it. But lucky guess." I explain, causing Nik to smirk, then leads me a bit away from the two to take a seat on the love seat.
We watch them begin to research to try and translate the symbols with the internet and sword, this goes on for some time.
"Okay, this is it. We've translated all the symbols on the tattoo. 'Passage inside... requires a young senator, and a pretty flower.' Okay, none of this makes sense!" Caroline says irritated.
I was leaned against Nik with his arm around my shoulder, watching them work slowly dwindling. Nik the says something in Aramaic, "Requires a powerful witch and a hunter in full bloom." he says in english, helping their translation to be correct.
"What are you doing?" Tyler questions, hesitantly, and a bit aggressive at Nik's help.
Nik smirks, "I don't need to tell you my reasons. Caroline. Bring my sword over to here." he tells them.
