The creaking of metal in the space station was nothing new for me. It brought me memories of when I came here for the first time. I swear, every little creak, groan and bang almost gave me a heart attack. Being a fresh meat in the 3rd battalion, I was teased none stop, well after I've gotten used to those sounds. Yet, today those sounds brought me no comfort. Stopping by a window, I looked at the vast darkness of the space. Today might be the last day I hear the metal working.

One year ago, a son of our general killed the leader of Arias race during negotiation talks that threw entire Empire in chaos. The son claimed it was as self-defense, but no one believed him. Everyone in the space military that had to deal with that son of the bitch knew his hatred of all species except human race. Becoming soldier just because of the power his family worked to get throughout years, using that power for selfish causes. Even the feared general couldn't control his son. Some say he was even relieved when he had to execute his own son on charges of international disbalance and treason.

The Arias race is one of the most powerful races in the galaxy. They became popular throughout the Empire when a movie came out based on them. Soon after that movie, some researchers and peace holders were sent to their planet and a relationship, though very fragile, was created between the Empire and Arias. The race was first thought to be one of the parasitic types, because of their reproduction, but soon that thought was fixed. What was known for the Empire was that they had a nest, the living thing where Arias lived, and everyone was born in there. From birth they are connected with each other. Then there is The Mother, the ruler of the race. She is born like any other member of the nest, but she has some sorts of deeper connection with the nest. The nest is like a nerve system that is spread throughout the planet. If there is danger in the planet, the nest is informed first, but since it is a sentient structure of sorts it can't talk. Instead it sends the warning to The Mother and she orders other members. The Mother's importance is not over yet. She is also is the reason for the strength of the Arias members. Since all members have some kind of psychic link between them, but not with the nest, they get the strength through The Mother. In other words, the nest gives strength for self-preservation through The Mother. And if someone were to kill The Mother, then entire species are rendered useless, loosing unthinkable strength, agility and resistance. Because of this, The Mother is kept deep in the nest, guarded by the strongest of all members. There is another interesting fact of Arias. The birth of a female is super rare. Only 1 female for 1000 000 males or something close to that. Researchers aren't sure yet. So, yes. The entire Arias species are made from males with only one female to rule.
