Twister watches Toure hold his own against the proto-type. While he wants to help out, he knows he is powerless without his best weapon, which is his sword. He also knows that it would be foolish to take it back from Toure.
As Toure lands a series of cuts and blows on the proto-type, Twister knows that Toure is a much more formidable opponent than himself. Nevertheless, Twister still has a job to do. He needs to lead the Nationalist.
His sights cross paths with Byrd's, who watches him from roughly ninety degrees away. Feeling slightly better, he musters the strength to sprint over to her. Toure and the proto-type are so locked into battle that they don't notice him.
Twister crouches down to a knee and holds his sister's free hand,
"He can handle this. We need to go."
"Ack!" shouts Toure.
Twister jerks his head around and sees Toure fly through the air and crash into the sand. This stirs panic inside of Twister's stomach as he helps Byrd onto her feet. She leans into him and struggles to balance herself.
"I should be fine," says Byrd.
Before Toure can climb to his feet, the proto-type fires a barrage of bullets towards him. Toure rolls around across the sand to evade the bullets. He rolls across the sandy floor so fast that a small sandstorm kicks up into the air.
This momentarily blinds the proto-type as it snaps its head to the side searching for Toure. The proto-type uses its scanner ability to search for Toure, but the sand causes too much interference. The proto-type is helpless.
Meanwhile, Byrd and Twister hobble to the exit.
"What about your sword? Icarus gave it to you. It's one of a kind" says Byrd.
Twister forces a smile,
"That assassin needs it more than me."
Byrd takes a long look at her brother before peeking behind her. She sees Toure stand outside of the sandstorm with his tail wrapped around the hilt of her brother's blade. She looks down at her blade and swallows hard.
Icarus designed these blades to work in tandem with each other. That's when they are strongest. It made little sense for Toure to fight with a sword that was only at half-strength as long as she held the other blade in her hand.
So, Byrd makes a decision.
"Hey!" shouts Byrd.
Toure turns to look at her and sees her steel blade spinning through the sky in his direction. Instinctively, Toure wants to grab the blade with his tail, but he remembers that he is already holding a blade with his tail. Therefore, Toure does something completely unnatural to the Viper race.
He catches the weapon with his hand.
"Those are twin blades! A good friend made those swords for us, so you better take good care of them!" shouts Byrd.
Before the two disappear out of the arena, however, Twister stops and turns around,
"Thank you!" he shouts.
Toure blinks his eyes in disbelief. A Human actually thanking a Viper? Unheard of! Toure starts to wonder if there are humans in the world capable of gratitude. But before he can ruminate any further, the sand storm dissipates. The proto-type's red eyes glare at Toure. It has evil intentions.
Toure glares back at the proto-type. He feels the exact same way.
***
Daedalus watches the battle between Toure and the proto-type. But mentally, he only sees the swords made by Icarus clashing against the android he created. He wonders who has the better science.
