I remember it like it was yesterday.....
The tv flickered on while I was at home waiting for my mom and siblings to get home.
" BREAKING NEWS, BREAKING NEWS" the tv blared.
"That's funny, I don't remember watching the news last," I mumbled to myself. I was trying to think about who was on the tv last when I realized I might want to listen to the news. Seen as the tv thought it was important enough to turn on, let alone to that specific channel.
"Science has made a discovery that may wipe out the human race. Science says that consuming brain tissue releases a new, highly addictive, psychoactive compound. The scientists found this out when a refugee, SGT Gabriel Anderson, returned from an extremely gory battle. He was the only one to return out of his platoon. People say that he just 'wasn't the same' when he came home." It then cut to a few interviews of the refugee's family and friends. It went on for a bit longer before explaining how they exactly found out about this psychoactive compound. "His family recommended the soldier for testing to find out what was wrong with him or if it was just a severe case of PTSD. After a few weeks of testing the sergeant, the scientist in charge of the research noticed the new compound. When they looked further into it they asked about his diet while on his mission. He replied with 'food was scarce but I ate mostly meat and when I could grains and vegetables'. They immediately knew that it was because of his diet. When asked about what kind of meat he consumed he replied, nonchalantly, 'human'. He then said he couldn't stop consuming his teammates." I was baffled on how he could eat his friends!
"Disgusting!" I exclaimed to myself as I turned off the tv and walked to greet my family that just came home.
*A Few Moths Later*
They had been experimenting with the compound that they had found a while ago with a group of random citizens from across the globe. Well, here's the downfall to that... They all escaped. The test subjects got addicted to the brain tissue and the scientists were not feeding them enough to cure their cravings. Long story short:
- the scientists essentially created zombies
- they all escaped
- they're out to get us, or more specifically our brains
My family and I have been keeping our eyes out for any signs that any of our neighbors are "zombies". So far we have tabs on one of them, and they've started to get weirder. Not to mention she keeps hosting a lot of parties and no one ever leaves the same. But I'm sure that's nothing, right?
"ANNABETH!" my mother called me from the front room. I ran to her and she was in the window. I looked out to see what was wrong and immediately knew. Our neighbor and her friends were eating our other neighbor.
"What the?!?!?" I whisper-yelled to myself horrified.
"We need to hide now, grab your emergency bag and tell your siblings. I'll get the pets."
