-Athena-

"Bye sweetie, have a gre-" Mortified, I slammed the car door shut, trying my best to block out my Mom's embarrassing words. My mother didn't seem to notice, she just drove off, and my eyes followed her blue Prius until it exited the parking lot. Yup. Senior in High School and still being driven to school by my mother. I can't afford anything else, don't have a car of my own. I sighed at the thought, and began to make my way to the front doors of the school, the dreaded place. I'm obviously so excited for my first day back, right? I know. You must wonder how I do it.

As I took my time making my way up the path, (the longer I was outside of that hellhole, the better) I felt a muscular arm rest on my shoulders. I grinned, looking up at Zayn, who was casually walking as if he didn't just sneak up on me. "Hello boy, who managed to evade me this entire summer" I teased. "Hello girl, who knows that I couldn't see her because I was visiting family" He retorted, smirking at me. Rolled my eyes, saying, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, su-". I was interupted by a high-pitched screach of my name, and was promtly tackled to the ground by a ginger figure. Lindsay.

I hit the ground with a very attractive "oof", Linday screaming "Athena!!". "Lindsay. Offa me." I choked out from underneath her. "Oh, sorry" she said, climbing off of me and helping me to my feet.

Standing before me were my other three best friends: Makayla, Lindsay, and Jackie. Makayla was a petite girl, very small and delicate looking. Her light brown, curly hair ended at her chest. Her eyes were chestnut-brown, and large and round. She looked almost like a lost puppy, small and fragile. But, the slight smile she wore everywhere dismissed the idea that she was unhappy, only that she was shy.

Then, there was Lindsay, proving that with fiery hair comes a fiery attitude. She was of average height, and had bright green eyes, usually alight with joy and laughter. Complete opposite of Makayla, seeing as she were much more bold and a bit arrogant. Of course, that only made us laugh at her outrageousness, she was very silly, hardly ever serious.

Finally, there was Jackie. She was, too, of average height. Her dark brown, wavy hair reached her waist. She had green eyes with blue swirling around inside of them, creating an intoxicating aray of ocean-like colors. Her hair and eyes were in complete contrast of her white skin, which made them stand out. She stood out. And her outgoing personality mirrored her looks.

"Hey ladies" I said with a small smirk. "Shall we?" Lindsay asked, tilting her head in the direction of the steps that lead to our school's front door. "We shall" Jackie said, taking my hand and dragging me to the double doors that loomed before us. I giggled, turning my head back and shouting, "Keep up, Malik!" Then, I was dragged into the front hall, loosing sight of my Zayn, bu- woah. Wait a minute. Did I just call him "my Zayn"? Wow... that was weird...

~Zayn~

Athena's head turned back, her bright blue eyes meeting mine as she shouted, "Keep up Malik!" Her black, loose, ringlet curls bounced lightly on her shoulder, the morning sun giving them a glossy shine. Her light giggle filled my ears as her friends dragged her into the school, her gorgeous face disappearing from view. I jogged into the hall to keep up with her, and caught sight of her at the end of the hall. "Love you bestie!" she called to me, her bright smile lighting up her face. "Love you too!" I called back to her.

Yes, I do love her. More than she will ever know.

*Harry*

"Love you bestie!" A voice filled my ears as I stood at my locker. I turned around and found, just as I had expected, the voice belonged to Athena,  calling to Zayn. I turned back around. Nothing new. I swear to God, Zayn must be gay, seeing as he only likes Athena as a "friend". I mean, c'mon! That girl is hot!

'Then again,' I thought, 'I was once friends with her too'. I remembered me and Athena, how we were once attached by the hip. I sometimes missed that, but when a hot chick passed by me and looked at me approvingly, those thoughts drifted away. I mean, I would have never lived it down if I had continued on being "the boy who's best friend is a girl". Let's face it, I would have been called gay, and would have had no friends. It happened to Zayn. His only friends are that nerd Liam, the weird kid Niall, and that kid Louis who also would've been called gay if it weren't for his girlfriend Eleanor. Who is definitely a beard.

I shut my locker, walking off, completely forgetting about Athena. My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I pulled it out, inspecting who sent me a text. I smirked at the name

Chelsea:

Hey babe ;). Whatcha doin 2nite? I was wondering if u'd like 2 come over...? :)

I immediately answered her.

I'm not doing anything. I guess that means I'll c u 2ni

Suddenly, I slammed into someone -or something- and fell onto the hard floor of the hallway. "Omigod I am so sorry!" someone said. Wait a minute, I recognized that voice. That was the same voice that called "Love you bestie!" not too long ago...

I looked up and found Athena in front of me, Her already big blue eyes opened wide in shock. She was on the floor, as was all of her things, and she quickly scrambled to gather them. "S-s-sorry, Harry" she mumbled, and I felt extremely awkward. I went to help her pick up her things, but in my act of leaning in to help, I smacked my head against hers, causing both of us to simultaneously lean back, put our hands to our foreheads, and groan "Oww". She glanced up at me and giggled. "Um... sorry"  she said one more time, successfully grabbing her things and standing up, and finally exiting the hallway hurriedly, leaving me alone on the floor to ponder what had just happened. Whatever it was, it was awkward...

-Athena-

I left the hallway, finally, and hurried to my class, trying hard to escape the awkward situation I was just put in. At the same time, I wondered if he ever fleetingly missed the friendship we used to share...
