"Sleep, sleep, beautiful child. Sleep, sleep, free from worry and pain. Sleep, sleep, free from worry and pain." My mother hummed as she laid Eliana down in the crib. She quit humming when she turned to walk over to me. Mother kissed me goodnight and went to go turn out the light.

"I'm scared." I whispered when mother turned out the light. She turned around with her hand on the door frame. Her mouth straightened into a thin line. Then, she forced out a weak smile.

"Adelaide, there is nothing to be scared of." She said when she walked back over to me.

"But those men--where are they taking my friends?" I said looking up into mother's eyes for a split second then looking back down at the floor. Mother stroked my head.

"Sweetie...there is nothing to be afraid of." She smiled a little more. "Do you want to know a little secret?" I nodded my head. "I heard a couple of the soldiers talking the earlier today--when I sent you upstairs. They said they are here to make this country a better place. Those soldiers are not going to hurt us."

Moher kissed my forehead once more before leaving the room.

The next morning I woke up to the sound of boots stomping across the old wood floor in the house. A rather tall and thin man appeared in the doorway to my room. He had a crooked smile and he took a step closer to me.

"Why hello there little girl." I looked at the man and sat up in my bed.

"W-why are you here?" I stuttered out.

"I'm here to end everybody's misery." He chuckled a sickly laugh. "I'm going to take you and your family to a special place for...special people. Now come along." I got up out of my bed and followed the man outside. He told some other men to put me, mother, and father into a certain truck.

"Move!" One of the men yelled. I cringed and buried my face in my father's coat.

I'm here to end everybody's misery....a special place for special people.

A/N

Oh, wow. This is a very short chapter. Sorry. I've been really busy so I'm just uploading the little bit that I have written so far :)

So...this has absolutely nothing to do w/ this book but...I was watching these funny American Idol videos on YouTube because well--why not?? I like a good laugh every now and then. And I don't watch American Idol. Anyways, I had my headphone things on and this one girl started singing and it nearly blew out my eardrums. I think I lost about 75% of my hearing. I have this constant ringing in them. Just thought I should share my experience with y'all.
