"And then he just walked off." I grumbled shoving another spoon of ice-cream in my mouth. "Walked off like he'd delivered a pizza or something- oh good idea! Cane! Order me a pizza please."
"Hun, maybe-" Addy began but I turned the full force of my puppy eyes on her. "Order the pizza, get me one with olives."
She grumbled for a bit about how my god damn eyes didn't work on her and shot Cane a perplexed look over my head but refrained from commenting. In the last six hours I'd had a craving for everything from Chinese to Ben and Jerry's, and the ever dutiful Cane had been on delivery duty. I continued shoveling rocky road into my mouth as Addy cycled through Nicole's phone list. So far we weren't sure where she was, or which phone she was using but gods help us if she didn't hear about this from us before anyone else.
"Ry, are you sick?" Lola's small voice inquired coming to lay down next to me on the couch. "Is it because you never ever blow dry your hair?"
I winced even before Addy could start shouting. "Really Blaire! How many times do I have to tell you about blow drying your god damn hair! I told you, your mum told you, you're going to get a head cold one of these days-" catching Lola's apologetic glance at me Addy softened her features. "No hun she's not that kind of sick."
I threw my arm and the rest of the blanket around Lola. "Dont worry short stack, I'm fine, my zen is just a little shot."
She snorted and mumbled something about my never having any zen but I chose to ignore that in my current state. When the little bundle of sass had run off to do her homework I turned back to Addy. She immediately plopped down next to me and grabbed the ice cream, Cane proceeded to sit on the other side of me and grab the tub from her to hand back to me. I pressed a quick kiss to his cheek in thanks and settled back down with my rocky road.
"I hate this, I'm not this person. I don't mope and stress crave like a pregnant woman!"
Addy cuddled into my side and tutted. "You're not this person, you're just human. This isn't you, its just how you're dealing with this particular thing."
"Addy's right. You and Fal have history, it must have thrown you today to see him after all these years, and it wasn't exactly a vanilla meeting, was it." Cane added smiling at me sagely.
"I just need a break honestly, a few days away from everything. I have to meet a client in London in a week, I think I might head there early. Stay for a bit to clear my head and then come home."
It sounded like running, in my heart I knew that's exactly what it was. I was once again running from Falcon Avery, just like he said I had. But I couldn't be here, do this, pretend to be fine when I so clearly wasn't. The break was necessary, I needed to go screw my brain on right and shore up some defenses against the Devil I knew.
"I don't know Blaire. Are you sure run- ahem, avoiding this is going to help?" I shot her a dirty look and she raised her hands in surrender. "All I'm saying is that Falcon is a determined guy, what's stopping him from going to London after you?"
Cane scoffed, "First, he'll never know she's left or where she's going, we'll make sure of that. Second, it would be very creepy if he did. Obviously Blaire isn't ready for whatever he's offering, he should respect that and back off!"
"You don't think he's kinds done that already? I mean it has been six years, he as sure as told Blaire he's been waiting for her."
"That's irrelevant. If Blaire doesn't want in, she doesn't want in, he cant force feelings!"
"Would he even be doing that though? These two have had a pending relationship for years! They knew it, we knew it, hell the entire Academy knew it. Feelings don't go away, not feelings like that."
