I was hiking by a nice river, well me and a lot of other people were hiking. It was very sunny and I was enjoying some quiet since my friends decided to run ahead. I could hear someone behind me but I ignored them. They started running and I could hear their heavy breathing as they got closer, once they were next to me, I glanced up to see who it was.
My heart dropped.

It was him.

We walk in silence for a few minutes. During that, I'm mentally freaking out. Do I have to talk to him? Why is he walking with me? Is something going to happen?

"Why do you hate me?" He asks, and I feel my heart stop.

What do I say? I don't hate him but he's not exactly my favorite person.

"I-I don't exactly hate you... it's more of a dislike." I answer and curse myself for stuttering.

"Well, then... why do you dislike me?" He presses, determined to get an answer out of me.

I panic. How do I answer that? Telling someone why I dislike them isn't the nicest way to go. So, I take the somewhat easy way and shrug my shoulders, making an 'I don't know' sound.
We walk in more silence for a while longer and then he speaks again, "is it because... I broke your heart?"

Again I am surprised by how bold he is.

"I guess that's a reason," I mutter to myself, but he still hears it.

He nods and then questions me again, "Is there another reason?"

I think for a moment before replying, "I guess it's also because we were good friends at school and then you kinda stopped talking to me and we didn't hang out as much."

We had stopped walking now and I was surprised no one had passed us. He opens his mouth to say something but then closes it.

Again, we stand in silence, awkwardly glancing around.

Finally, sticking out his hand, he says "Let's start over... I'm Dallin."
