I'm sitting in class, waiting for the bell to ring so I can hang out with Lacie and Alex. I think Alex will like her, she'd make a great addition to our friend group, or lack there of.

The bell finally rings, and I walk towards Alex's truck. Alex is already there because she races out of the building every day.

"Hey T," She says excitedly.

"Hey Alex! There's a new girl in my photography class, and I was wondering if we could take her to the park today to take some pictures. I think she'd make a great model for my project that I'm working on. The only problem is, I have no clue what I'm going to do my project on," I answer.

"Yeah sure T! What's her name? You can tell a lot about a person by their name," She jokes. I wonder sometimes if Alex can ever actually be serious outside of school. It's whatever, she's my best friend and nothing can change that, even if she likes mangoes. I hate mangoes with a passion.

"Her name is Lacie," I reply.

"Alright, she can join us. I don't know any Lacies that have done you or me harm yet," she says.

A While Later

It's almost time for Lacie to meet Alex and I at the park. I'm so excited because I really want her to like me. I'm in desperate need of some new friends.

I play with my ring, like I usually do when I'm nervous. I notice that my ring has changed color from dark blue to a yellow. Someone should really do research on why these things change color. I'm surprised that hasn't been done yet, because these rings have been around for centuries.

"T? You there?" Alex asks. I just realized I had spaced out thinking about my ring and neglected to pay attention to what Alex was telling me.

"Yep, still here. Sorry, I spaced out. Could you tell me everything you just said again?" I ask. It must be difficult being friends with me, I'm such a handful sometimes.

"I was asking if Lacie needs a ride here. If so, we can pick her up at her house," She responds. I forgot to ask her if she needed a ride after school. To be fair, I don't even know if she's coming, because she had to ask her dad first.

I don't have her phone number either. I'm not sure if she knows where the park is.

Damnit, I tell myself. I get too caught up in my own ideas that I sometimes forget to say what I'm thinking in my head. I just assume the words have already left my mouth.

We head to the park anyways, and as we pull up, we see a maroon Toyota Prius pulled into a parking space up ahead.

We park, and get out of the vehicle when I see that Lacie is sitting on a bench beside the Prius.

"Sweet ride," I shout as I walk up. I'm so ready to take some pictures out here.

"Thanks, I call her Magnet," she says back to me. She'll have to tell us that story sometime, if there is one. Any way to spend more time with Lacie, the better.

"Well, shall we start the shoot?" Alex asks as she walks up with my camera. I totally forgot I left it in the car. There I go again, forgetting stuff.

"For sure, I already walked the trail and found a great spot," Lacie replies. I've walked this trail several times, I'm wondering which spot she's talking about.

We find our way to the spot, and I realize it's the one by the small bridge. A creek flows underneath it, and there's a small ledge that you can sit on. I've seen people fish here before.

Maybe this could be the spot that helps me take the perfect picture for my photography project. On the other hand, this creek doesn't really mean anything to me, so how can it mean anything to other people?

"My dad and I used to walk trails like this before we moved," Lacie says, "I miss those walks. It gave me somewhere to just be, and not worry about anything else".

Maybe this spot could mean something to her. Should I ask if she wants to take a picture of it? Nah, she can figure that out on her own.

"Wow, that's deep new kid," Alex says. She's right, that was pretty deep of Lacie to say. I barely know her and I feel like she shared a big part of herself with two people she just met today.

"Yeah, it is. Now I get to ask you guys some questions," she jokes.

"Ask away, bud" I reply. I'm pretty much an open book at this point, with everyone I ever trusted telling random people things they swore to keep a secret. The only person who has held my trust is Alex. That's why she's my best friend.

"What do you know about these rings?" Lacie asks me. That's a tough question to answer, because all I know is that they change color and eventually disappear. I've never heard of them reappearing either.

"Absolutely nothing. The only thing I know is that right now, my ring is ye-" I stop. My ring isn't yellow like it was twenty minutes ago, it's now white. "It was yellow, now its white. I didn't even notice it changed color," I reply, finishing my sentence.

I think I need to do some more research on these rings as soon as I get home, because it's starting to get on my nerves. For now, I'll just enjoy the present. Just Alex, Lacie, and I.
