He stared out the window miserably, letting the substitute teacher's math lesson fade into background noise. Everything seemed to slow as he entered his own little world. There, no one could bother him, no one could reach him. It was as if everything melted into one big puddle, and formed into some new fantasy land where he could get lost in for hours on end. He walked down candy cane lane, past the cherry trees and into the dark chocolate forest... Although his fantasy was a paradise for people with a sweet tooth, he felt as if something evil drew him to this place.

She wandered alone in the woods, unsure of which direction she came from nor did she know which one led her to escape. It was like a maze, only this one seemed alive. The branches twisted in all sorts of directions and the trees looked as if they were breathing. A visible aura of sadness and despair hung in the air, originating from the tree's bark and thickening by the minute. Their roots curled beneath the surface. Dark soil was cold to the touch. Snap. She turned sharply towards the direction the sound seemed to have originated from. Nothing... She trudged down the lifeless pathway, not bothering to pick up her naked feet, allowing them to be covered in dirt. Her once lovely blue eyes have started fading to grey. Her arms began to feel heavier and heavier, weight being added after every step she took. The aching emptiness of the forest seemed to stretch on forever. She caught a brief glimpse of something moving out of the corner of her eye. It was fast, much quicker than she was being. She was alert now, senses sharp and cautiously observing her new surroundings. She had never been in this area of the forest. Come to think of it, she'd never really tried to get out in the first place. Crunch. This was no time to think about how foolish she had been, someone or something was watching her.
