In front of the group, a scene of horror unfolded. A once lively man, with a passion for cooking and a love for his family was now laid dead in front of their very eyes. Chiaki leaned down and gently touched the deep fried corpse, either for confirmation or a memorial. She pulled away, and looked at the group with sorrow filled eyes.
"He's gone," Ibuki finally said.
"Yep! All corpse's will be properly disposed of, so go ahead and head back to your cabins. Nighttime will commence shortly!" Monokuma laughed his sickening 'up up up' laugh, before sliding into the abyss.
Hajime stood in horror. He had never seen anything nearly as horrific. This was just a kid, the same age as him. He was a friend. And now he was gone. Teruteru and Byakuya's were nothing but corpses now, moving on to whatever afterlife existed. At one point, Byakuya had confided in him. He trusted them. And this just put the game in motion. Whoever, whatever, was behind this twisted game was watching behind. And this made him more certain, it wasn't just a game. It was a challenge.
Everyone had left the room, leaving behind Nagito and Hajime behind. Hajime had still refused to look away from his deceased friend. Gently, careful not to disturb him, Nagito placed a hand on Hajime's shoulder. It was firm enough to show a sign of comfort, and light enough to feel pleasant. It was exactly what Hajime had needed at that very moment. Hajime met his eyes, and could feel the tears begin to pour out. Nagito wrapped his arms in a caring embrace, and let the broken man sob into his shirt.
He didn't pull away when Hajime began to cry harder, or began to snot. He let him pour all of his emotions out, giving him exactly what he needed. Nagito may have not shown it, but way observant. He cared about his friends, and wanted to let him know he was there for them. He wanted the game to end, no matter the cost.
After a while, Hajime had caught his fleeting breath, and pulled away. "You may be the 'Ultimate Lucky Student' but you certainly don't look lucky," he gestured to the tear covered shirt.
"It'll wash out, don't worry," Nagito smilled, a heart warming smile, full of comfort and love. "Now let's go to the cabins."
"I don't want to be alone," Hajime admitted as they walked together on the long path back. Nagito looked at him, with a look so full of comfort, Hajime couldn't help but feel a little safer.
Two simple words slipped out of Nagito's mouth, unknowingly going to change both of their times on Jabberwock Island as they know it:
"Then don't."
The two found their way to the shop, and walked into the store. The night time announcement still hadn't gone off, meaning they had time to get some things for the planned sleepover they had decided on. On their purchase list was to find a movie, snacks and other things that they deem necessary for the night.
Inside the store, Monomi sat on the counter, looking nearly deactivated. When they walked by however, she turned back on, and smiled.
"Hello! Are you guys doing okay? I tried to make him stop, I'm so sorry!" Monomi apologized, bowing her head in sorrow.
"We are reasonable. I have hope that things will get better, even for garbage like me," Nagito self-deprecates, but in a way that sounded uplifting. "Are there any movies we can watch?"
Monomi debated for a moment, before pulling out a pink, but tiny, movie player- similar to a laptop. She handed it to Hajime, before passing Nagito a movie case. "This is the only movie we have. I'm not sure why, one of the people who put you here decided that was an acceptable choice."
Hajime leaned over Nagito's shoulders, and looked at the case. "The Greatest Showman." Personally, he had never watched it, not that he could remember, but he had listened to the soundtrack. He enjoyed some of the things that he heard, and always wanted to watch it, just never gotten around to listening. Nagito smiles at Monomi, and bows his head in a 'thank you'.
