Daniel walks into a class and immediately realizes something is wrong. Usually his boyfriend, Corbyn, greets him at the door. He is always here first. But not today. He walks to his seat alone and is greeted by Ashley, Corbyn's sister, instead. She fidgets with her fingers, biting her lip.
"Hey ash." He says smiling at her.
She doesn't return it. "Hey Daniel, do you know where Corbyn is?"
He frowns. "What, no why?"
"Because he didn't come home last night, I figured he was with you."
"He left from my house, saying he had to leave already. I figured your mom wanted him."
"My mom came home late for work. I don't think she texted him...Daniel. What if something happened to him?" Her eyes start to fill with tears.
"Hey, I'm sure he's ok. Maybe he decided to stay at Ebens. I'll call him." Even though the bell just rang Daniel pulled out his phone and called his friend Eben. It's home room, the teacher doesn't care what they do, just no fighting anyone.
"Hey Eben—"
"Hey Daniel, buddy, how are you?"
"Uh, fine. Do you know where Corbyn is."
He hesitates. "Um no I don't, wait aren't you in class?"
"Yeah. Aren't you supposed to be in class?"
"Yeah, but um..." he sighs. "Actually, I need you to come to my house."
"Eben, I'm in class! I can't just leave."
"If your teachers letting you call, I'm sure they won't care if you leave."
Daniel sighs and scratches his neck. "Fine. But why can't you just tell me over the phone?"
"This is something that has to be said in person."
"Is it about Corbyn?"
"Just come." He hangs up.
"What did he say?" Ashley asks.
"He wants me to meet him at his house." She starts to get up. "No, stay. I don't know if it's about Corbyn, but I'll call you if-when I find him." She nods and sits back down.
The teacher doesn't stop Daniel as he walks out the door. He doesn't get stopped by any security either, like they know his predicament.
When Daniel parks in Ebens driveway, he sees his friend already waiting for him.
"Eben what's wrong?" He guides Daniel inside.
"I don't want you to freak out."
"Just tell me what it is."
"It's Corbyn." He opens the restroom door, and there lie his blonde headed boyfriend. Daniel couldn't tell if he was breathing or not.
He runs to him, checking his pulse. It is faint but there. "Why haven't you called the ambulance?!"
"I did, before you called. They said they're on their way."
"They're taking too long." Daniel holds Corbyn in his arms, soothing down his hair. He is so pale, he already looks dead. "Just hold on baby. Please."
He hears wailing from the ambulance, holding Corbyn tighter. Eben lets them in and shows them upstairs. Daniel doesn't want to let go, but a nice nurse asks to check him and puts him onto the stretcher. One of them looks around the room, grabbing a bottle, "OD, amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Adderall."
"He has trouble focusing." Daniel explains.
"We need to get him to the hospital quick. Who's gonna ride with him?"
"Me." Daniel says quickly. They get to the ambulance, Daniel climbing in the back.
"Do you want me to tell Ashley and Jordan?" Eben asks.
"I'll tell them." Eben nods and the doors are closed, the ambulance leaving his street.
