Mountains of Fear

Orange streaks in the sky fade into a harshly dark purple. Almost a deathly purple. There was not a cloud in the sky. What a nice night to be out. A night that was almost too nice to end a life. Lights on the Bendlerbrücke bridge alluminated the painfully cold air. The clear sound of one foot stepping in front the other felt as though appeasement and fear were candles that had melted together. Each step was a step closer to the grand finale. A story of the end of a Polish girl ending her life would explode in the news.

Isn't that all the news wants? A good story and investigation? If that's all they want, why not give it to them? Stopping about halfway across the bridge, the Landwehrkanal became my main focus. A sigh escaped my mouth. It was a sigh of relief and dismay.

Breathe in, breathe out. You can do this Franziska Anna, you can do this. Just... lose your balance. You won't have to deal with this once it's done. It'll all be over soon.

Soon, wind whipped me from every direction. The impact of the river hurt so good. What hurt the most was that I was able to breathe and walk again. A policeman had pulled me out. He drove me to a place he would not tell me.

I asked why he had done that. He replied that he would not tell me unless I told him my name. The rest of the way to the surprise place he sat is silence. That was a word I could not comprehend. Anna circled my head. Sobs of 'what is my name?' escaped my mouth before we even arrived to where ever it was he was taking me. The officer did not even pull over to calm me down. He didn't even ask me what was wrong.

The sobs stopped when the car stopped. I should have known, Dalldorf Asylum. Did he take me here to remember my name? Just the sight of this place made me feel dizzy. Getting out of the car, I started walking towards the three story brick building. The rest of that night seems to slip my mind. Whenever I think of that night, all I envision is a wall of black.
