The doorbell was Daniel's cue that Hannah was outside, waiting for him to get the door. Daniel flew down the stairs grabbing his sweater and sneakers pulling the door open to see Hannah turn around to look at him. She was wearing jeans, a crop strapless top, jacket and peep-toe booties; her toenails were painted sky blue and her hair was pulled back into an effortless bun. She looked cute and Daniel couldn't help but wonder if she was dressing for him or it was just the "first day of school" thing to do.

"What's up?" Hannah stood in the doorway smiling and Daniel shook himself awake and invited her in while he put on his sneakers. Hannah joined him and while he tied his left sneaker she tied his right and the both of them laughed. "So it's the first day of tenth grade." Daniel breathed. "Yep... Sophomore year here we come!" Hannah chimed.

"Thanks." He said as they walked out the door soon being joined by their siblings.

The walk to wait for the school bus was just down the block and while the Seavey and Kepple siblings ran along Hannah made sure to stay back with Daniel who looked over his shoulder to see her. "Aren't you coming?"

"I have a car, remember?" Hannah's mischievous sparkle in her eyes made Daniel nervous, he liked the feeling... a lot. Hannah's hand held out a key of her own and her head motioned to the Jeep parked in front of the Kepples. "Let's hit the road, shall we?"

Daniel smiled. "You're the coolest person I know, did I ever tell you that?"

"Too many times to count, yes." Hannah rolled her eyes as the two walked back to the Jeep and hopped in. Hannah turned the key and smiled over at Daniel who put on his seat-belt while she turned the radio on and they drove out.

Once they arrived to the high school campus and Hannah parked, Daniel could feel the jitters of first-days start to kick in. He was usually nervous the night before school started. But for some reason he wasn't nervous until now. Hannah was the only thing he thought of and the only reason he forgot about school. Now that he was on school ground, there was no way to avoid the jitters.

"Wow... this school building is definitely bigger than I expected."

Daniel looked down at Hannah catching her eye just as the bus upfront opened its doors and their siblings walked out among other students.

"Guess I'll see you around." Hannah said walking away.

"Daniel's got a girlfriend. Dude, what did I miss out on?" It was Zach Herron's voice all right. Daniel rolled his eyes pushing down a smile as he turned around to see Zach. The guy was always a goof. "Not my girlfriend." Daniel came to his defense while Zach eyed him. "Not yet anyway..."

Daniel raised an eyebrow and then Zach continued talking. "She likes you."

"You think so? I mean we're just friends."

"The way she looked at you when she walked away was hot." Zach said with a goofy grin. "Who is she anyways?"

"While you chilled in the Bahamas for an entire month I got myself new neighbors... Hannah's my neighbor and well our families hung out and we became friends..."

"Your summer sounded better than mine. I tried hitting up on this really pretty girl at the resort we stayed at... she seemed into me. Next thing I know she had a boyfriend."

"Ooh... sorry about that." Daniel said mindlessly. "Hannah's really fun, you should meet her."

"Looking forward." Zach winked as they proceeded into the building.

🥶

Hannah shared three classes with Daniel and Daniel couldn't be more happy but to keep looking forward to them. Hannah was quickly making friends everywhere she turned. The girls loved her and some boys watched her and asked about her but it seemed like Hannah only had eyes for him.

During class Daniel would feel her eyes move on him and he'd grab them once he looked up. Smiles burned on their lips and though Daniel was bad at reading eyes, Hannah's would speak to him.

After class Hannah would walk out with her new friends while Daniel stayed back with his friends talking about Hannah. It was safe to say everyone had a crush on the new girl.

"She's hot." Jonah would say.

"What can I say Daniel, you're one lucky ass." Corbyn then said.

On the way out Daniel saw Hannah standing by herself by her locker writing something in her notebook and he walked up to her. "Hannah."

Hannah looked up and smiled when she saw him. "Hey."

"These are my friends. Jonah, Zach, Jack and Corbyn." Daniel pointed at his friends that were casually standing around waving at the pretty girl. Hannah looked at Daniel and back at the guys. "So cool. I'm Hannah, if you don't already know."

"It's awesome to finally meet Daniel's girlfriend." Jack joked causing Daniel to blush profusely while the guys snickered and Hannah did too shaking her head. The next thing Hannah did was place a hand on his arm while laughing. It all sent him on a frenzy. He was now laughing too.

God, what was it about this girl that sent chills down his spine everytime? Everything about her was overwhelmingly beautiful. Her voice, her face, her very own personality.

"So how are you liking school so far?" Daniel asked her in geography class.

"The people here are so nice. I think I'm really liking it here."

Daniel was happy to hear the words and even more excited to say what was on the tip of his tongue. "Hannah?"

"Yeah?"

Daniel could feel his heart beating in his chest. "I'm really happy you're here."

Hannah grinned. "You're really sweet."

"And... I don't know if this is random of me to say but you're really pretty too."

Hannah laughed and Daniel saw she was slowly blushing. He had gotten her to blush!!!

"Thank you, Daniel." Hannah shoved into him playfully.

The days flew by and even if Hannah didn't hang out much with Daniel at school. Out of school, the two would go over to one another's houses to do homework and play video-games.

After a while Daniel learned to understand Hannah didn't feel for him like he did for her. But it was fine because slowly Daniel didn't see her like a crush anymore but rather his best friend. He was lucky to be friends with her and that's all that really mattered.

Until something happened on October 5th...

Daniel was leaving the computer lab and as he raised his eyes to see down the hall, he spotted Hannah leaning against her locker with some tall guy hovering over her with his hand on her cheek. She was giggling and the guy was smirking while his other hand snaked down her hip and laid there.

It looked like they were about to kiss or something.

Daniel felt his heart drop and he turned away not wanting to keep looking at the scene. What were they doing? Why was she giggling like she liked it? Daniel didn't know what to think... but whatever the hell it was he was jealous.

And all the feelings came back rushing at him like a flood.
