The sound of clamoring pots awoke Daniel Seavey from his deep sleep. He turned peeking an eye open to see it was already noon sending his eyes wide open.
He sat up, taking a moment to recall it was still a week till school started again.
He was going into 10th grade and the thought of it made him want to scream.
"DANIELLLLL!" It was his mother's high pitched voice calling him from the kitchen. What was the woman doing in the kitchen now?
Daniel crawled out of bed and flung himself downstairs while rubbing his eyes. Upon entering the busy kitchen with his mother all over the place, made Daniel stifle a chuckle. This was not like her, at all all.
"What's happening? Why are you making this mess, mom?" Daniel asked scrunching his nose at the smell of something burnt. "What's that smell?"
"Oh it's your grandma's favorite pie... I must've left it too long." The woman laughed at her own immaturity in the kitchen. Dad always cooked for them.
"Mom?"
"Did you brush your teeth?" Jenna asked her son with a knowing look. Daniel had an issue of forgetting to brush his teeth after a long night's mouth closure. Daniel gave a half smirk. "I should probably go wash my mouth-"
"Yes. You probably should."
"But like what's this all about mom? No offense but you never cook..."
"Brought home some sausages ready to grill!" John, Daniel's dad, walked in suddenly, placing the groceries down on the countertop. He then turned eyes on his curious son. "We got new neighbors, son. Go shower we have guests coming over later."
Daniel raised an eyebrow. Wow, that was something new.
"I hear they have a daughter your age so you better shower. Oh! and brush your teeth while you're at it."
"John!" Jenna smacked her husband playfully while Daniel rolled his eyes turning back to his room.
Before washing his teeth Daniel made sure to peer out the window and see for himself they indeed had new neighbors next door... and a pretty girl his age.
