Don't Let Go
Someone pushed her gently, Allara had to open her eyes to death stare them. The sun was too bright, it stung her eyes.
"Allara, seriously you really have to stop zoning out" One of Allara's closet friends, Dane, looked at her seriously.
"Why? It's a sanctuary inside here," she tapped one of her temples with her index finger. Dane narrowed his eyes at her more.
Dane and Allara had been friends for nearly two years now. He hadn't really changed, his hair still hung in his eyes, no matter how much she nagged him to get it cut. When he smiled Allara's heart stopped, he was gorgeous, she had to admit, but she'd never admit that to him, she was already afraid his head would float away. All the girls would sneak sideways looks at him, and it was never very subtle either. Dane never seemed to notice the looks, but his ego was bigger than both of them combined. Allara focused again Dane was looking at her intently with his green eyes. Black hair, green eyes and nearly seven foot? What girl wouldn't want him?
"Why are you staring at me?" Allara asked accusingly.
"I... uhh ... I wasn't" She had caught him off guard. Dane looked away from her, "I wasn't staring, Ally"
"Dane, you were," Allara laughed at Dane as red patches appeared on his cheeks."Naww, poor
Daneykins,"
"Allara, I do not appreciate that" he said stubbornly.
Allara laughed at him again, they were sitting under a large leafy tree, in the park. Allara loved it here; she could drift away in her imagination anytime she wanted, Or whenever Dane isn't here.
"What are you thinking about?" He was looking at her again.
"How much of a pain in the butt, you are to me," she smiled at him sweetly.
"No, not then. When you drifted into your head-space, "he asked, tentatively.
"My head-space?" Allara laughed, "I was thinking about nothing and everything"
"That doesn't tell me anything, Ally. You know I worry about you,"
"Did I ask you to worry about me?"
"No, Ally that's not fair"
"This is ridiculous; don't complain about me not telling you things when I have to start crying for you to tell me anything!"She stood up, bringing her things with her, "I need to go home now"
"Allara, don't do this. Stay, please, "his voice was pleading.
"Dane I can do anything I like and you can't do anything to stop me" her voice was defiant but tears welled in her eyes. She didn't want to do this to Dane, but she hated being dependant on anyone.
"Just stay with me, Ally," he held a hand out for Allara.
Tears started running down her cheeks; she tried to turn quickly before he saw them. She heard leaves being crushed behind her; she quickly tried to run before he stood up. She had only run a few steps away from Dane before she felt an arm grab her around her waist and pull her back into an embrace. She tried to struggle free but Dane held onto her tightly. The tears turned into sobs and Allara stopped fighting him and moved closer to Dane.
"You were thinking about him weren't you?" He said it quietly, trying not to upset her more.
"It seemed so real, I was so happy," Allara leant her head against Dane's chest.
"Ally, you have to stop doing this to yourself, He isn't coming back, and he can't come back," he rested his chin on her head.
"Miracles happen" she said assuredly.
"Allara, he's gone, he's dead," He softened his tone at the last part. He tightened his grip on her waiting for her to do something irrational. He thought back to her last escapades: she had thrown her text books at some girl who had been giving her shit, the girl deserved it, but Allara had broken down crying afterwards. Or another time when she had just walked out of class, it took Dane four hours to find her. When he had found her she was just a heap her eyes were blank and emotionless, she wouldn't say a thing. She stopped talking to everyone but her family for two months after that. She had only talked to her family because she didn't want them to know anything was wrong.
"I know, Dane," her voice was thick with tears. He held her tighter, wanting to give anything in the world for her to be happy, for her to be the old Allara Elizabeth Candrall, the Allara that was so excitable, and the one who smiled at everything. He looked down at the Allara in his arms, she certainly wasn't the old Allara, and that scared him more than words could even begin to describe. He took in this Allara her light brown hair covered half of her face, tears making the hair clump and stick to her skin, Her blue eyes glistened brighter, due to her tears and the bright sun smarting her vision. He felt tears well in his own eyes, Allara was broken. And he wanted to fix her, to make things better for her, to bring her back to the world with everyone else. Tears were slowly rolling off his chin crashing onto Allara's crown. She looked up at him horrified.
"Dane, why are you crying?" the words came out as sobs, she reached up trying to wipe away his tears, he took her hand and let her go
"Come on time to take you home," he said, trying to sound happy.
She looked up at him helplessly, and that killed him more than anything.
