4- Min Yoongi

"You done cleaning up the attic, sweetie?" my mother's voice came faintly from downstairs, and I could barely hear it out of focus.

Sensing my lack of reply as a bad sign, a sigh sounded as she padded upstairs, the floorboards creaking a little as she approached me. Taking in my hunched over form and her ears picking up on the sniffles I'd been so desperate to hidw, she could sense that something terrible must've gone on.

Quickly (but carefully so as not to startle me), she approached me and stood in front of me, still as a statue for a couple of seconds as she understood the reason I was crying so helplessly.

"Oh, honey," her voice sympathetically came closer as the spare couch wheezed under her weight beside me, causing dust to fly up, as her hand began to gently stroke my hair.

Squeezing the photographs in my hand until I feared they'd rip in half, I only began to cry harder at the sweetness in her voice as it mixed with the idea that she was partially the reason why I was so miserable.

In my hands, the polaroids of my ex-boyfriend were now stained with tears, and the ink writing at the edges was now smudged so I could barely make out his name and the date scripted underneath---but still his face was as clear as day.

"You found your old pictures, huh?" came my mother's tentative voice from beside me, now rubbing my back as she tried to soothe my heartbreak.

"Why did we have to move?" I was too choked up as I spoke, so the words I uttered into the silence were barely audible, "And why did I have to find these again when we moved right back?"

I could only try to wipe at my face in an attempt to cease the tears, but they just kept coming, as though years of pent up frustration were all being let loose now. And all my mom could do was wrap her arms around me.
