Hailey has been sitting in the same position for what felt like hours. She was too miserable to notice the time until the conch horn sounded in the distance to signal dinnertime at Camp Half- Blood.
Yet she was too determined to not move until he came out.
She started at the sudden bang of the door and Nico di Angelo walked out and towards the dining area without even a single glance at her.
"Nico, wait!" Hailey called out, her voice hoarse, and shuffled up to stand. Nico didn't stop though she was sure he heard her.
"Nico, please, one moment." Her voice cracked in an effort to shout. How long has it been since she drank water? Her throat was parched.
Finally! Nico faltered in his step but did not turn towards her. She walked up to him and he finally turned sensing her behind him.
Hailey did not wait for him to speak. "Listen Nik, I..." She cleared her throat but before she could speak further, he responded.
"No, you listen to me," he said through gritted teeth. "Stop this sobfest and stop pursuing me. I don't think there is anything more left for you to say to me.
Don't expect us to be friends anymore, alright? It's over. It. Is. OVER!" He threw the words to my face, stressing every point before he turned and walked away. His words slashed at me like knives as I stood there with silent tears rolling down my cheeks, each word seeming harsher than before.
