This story is for the Open Novella Challenge 2020.
Prompts used:
38. When stealing a loaf of bread will get you quite literally shipped off to a distant land full of promise and possibilities, a young woman decides it's worth the risk. However, she gets more than she bargains for when one of the naval officers on board declares his love for her.
53. Someone is murdered on the cruise ship you're on. Passengers are told to lock themselves in their cabins and await further instructions. The P.A. goes on and the captains says, "The first contestant has fallen, only 499 remain." With that, the doors all click and swing open.
I've merged these two together and have transposed it into a scifi setting -- the ship to a space ship...
