Syra waved (Y/N) off from the doorway in the alley. She had already said her goodbyes and her goodlucks, giving (Y/N) a dagger and a small shield. She insisted on these items, knowing that what (Y/N) was about to do was either the most amazing thing anyone has ever done, or an immediate suicide mission. (Y/N) stressed to Syra that she couldn't tell a single person about her plans tonight, knowing that some idiot would try to follow her and ruin the whole mission.
The door closed, leaving (Y/N) in the cold, dark alley. It was past Midnight, and the lanterns flickered in the frigid wind. (Y/N) pulled her hood up, covering her face and protecting it from the chill. She left the alley, walking to the main street in a matter of minutes. Unsurprisingly, not a soul was active this late at night.
Good.
She walked into central Castle Town, past the fountain that was still babbling away, covering the sound of her footsteps against the old stones and bricks. She circled around an old cobblers building, now abandoned and empty, climbing in through the open window on the side. Inside the dark and musty building there was a circular disk on the ground, the size of a sheild and twice as thick. She stood over it for a second, knowing that the next three hours were going to be the biggest 'you'd better not fuck this up' Moment of her life. She had three hours until the guards would switch posts, and while most of them would be asleep at their posts anyway, she wasn't stupid enough to risk her neck on a chance that a guard wouldn't wake up from his comrades moving. Once she moved the metal disk covering the passage, she would have to take no chances.
And so she moved the metal disk. It revealed a hole in the ground. It was big enough for a person to fit through, and then immediately have to crawl for roughly half a mile.
The passage was big enough that she could comfortably crawl and not worry about hitting her head on the roots sticking out of the top of the tunnle, but her elbows and knees began to ache the further she crawled. (Y/N) continued on, reminiscing on the last time she had to use this tunnle. It was certainly in better shape then, but smuggling a person was harder than loot. Especially when that poor witch had been kept in the dungeon for days with no food. Her name had been Arani, and she was the kindest woman (Y/N) had ever met. She was the one who had convinced (Y/N) to leave Castle Town and see the world for what it was meant to be.
She wasn't sure how Arani would feel about her coming back. Especially with a suicide mission for the ages.
The tunnle ended with an open hole at the top, covered in hay. (Y/N) stood up and emerged from the hay, climbing out of the hole. She was now in the same cell Arani had been in. No one occupied the cell currently, and it was far enough into the castle that the cells on this wing were all empty.
She had time.Pulling out her map as quietly as one could with such old paper, she examined her next route. It seemed there was a passage four cells down leading directly into the vault, just like she has said to Syra. With no prisoners on this wing, all cells were unlocked and open, meaning she had easy acess and no guards to worry about.
Everything was going perfectly according to plan.
She opened the cell silently, and even the rusty hinges were on her side. She walked down the stone hallway, looking closely at each cell, avoiding widows and candlelight as best she could.
She approached the cell that was shown on the map, and entered the already opened door. She That's when she heard the worst sound for a plan that was going perfectly.
Footsteps.
"Why did you wake me up this late? There are no prisoners on this wing." a deep voice said.
No. No, no, no, no, no. That can't be him.
"I swear I think something is wrong. Someones here, I feel the goddess telling me so." a female voice replied, sounding paranoid. It wasn't the princess, that much (Y/N) could tell. She'd heard enough of Zeldas blatherous decrees to know her voice. It was probably some maid for the castle. But that didn't matter. People were coming and that was so incredibly bad.
(Y/N) hid under the pile of hay in the corner and waited.
And waited.
The footsTeps were closer now.
She waited more."Was that door always open?" The woman inquired.
"Lots of doors are open on this wing. There are, as previously stated, no prisoners on this wing. Goodnight." She heard the heavy footsteps of the man grow further away from her location. The woman quickly followed suit.(Y/N) let out her held breath and stood up. Very slowly, she peeked her head out of the cell, checking for any sign of life. She found none. (Y/N) looked along the wall of the interior of the cell, and saw the telltale sign of a brick too small for its hole.
Gotcha.
She hurried over and pulled the brick from the wall, placing it on the ground, then doing the same with other bricks. She had moved ten bricks from the wall in total, leaving a hole just big enough to climb into. She picked her leg up and-
"Well now, when an innocent kitchen maid had told me there was a ruckus in the east wing cells, I almost didn't want to believe it."
Her heart sank.
