Chapter Three: The Crash

Narrator's POV

Jade went inside the cabin and locked herself up in the bathroom. She sat with her back against the door and tears streamed down her cheeks. She held her head in her quivering hands.

*Knock. Knock.*

"Babe, I'm really sorry. Please come out so we can talk." Ashton told her from behind the door.

"I don't wanna talk about how I'm sick in front of our friends." She wiped her face.

"We can talk here. Just you and I in that room on the right." He waited for her to come out but she still didn't.

"Come on, up and at em!" He demanded with a soft voice.

"I'll be out in a minute."

She opened the door. Put on the big girl mask and stood in front of Ashton. Hands crossed, right below her breasts. She stared into his eyes.

"I want our babies to have your eyes..." He said as he approached her and grabbed her face.

She moved his hand away.

"Is it so wrong that I want us to have a baby?
I want you to be the mother of my children. Why is that so wrong? You heard Audrey. You CAN have a baby. WE can do this." Ashton looked at her with tears in his eyes.

"What part of I'm sick and I'm petrified don't you understand? I love you Ashton. But I'm ill. I'm not strong enough to be a mother. I'm scared shitless." She looked down at her feet and tried to refrain from tears that were threatening to overspill her eyes.

"We're having a baby. That's it. End of discussion." He said with a harsh tone.

She looked up at him.

"No arguing." He said.

"This isn't your choice to make."Jade said.

"It is. And i said we are having a baby." He glared at her.

"We're not." She calmly stated.

"YES WE ARE!" He raised his voice.

She was in shock. He never raised his voice at her like that before...

He felt a wave of guilt wash over him as she looked at him with pain and hurt in her eyes.

She grabbed the car keys and ran out the door and passed by Nate and Audrey.

"HEY! JADE!" Audrey screamed.

"Jade! WAIT UP!" Nate shouted.

Jade turned on the car and swiftly backed up and drove off before they could catch on.

"What did you do?" Nate glared at Ashton.

"What did you say to her?!" Audrey was about to slap him.

"I just told her i want to have a baby with her! Stop blaming me!" Ashton said with a shaky voice.

"You can't pressure her or force her, Ash". Nate told him.

It was pitch-black outside. Almost midnight. Jade was driving at a speed faster than rally cars. She felt like it wasn't her driving. It was as if the car was on auto-driver mode and she had no control over what's happening.

Two blinding lights suddenly blazed ahead like two shining eyes trying to pierce the impenetrable darkness – and with a jolt Jade realized that those lights belonged to a car – a car that was speeding towards her from the opposite direction, but in her lane.

Again Jade's eyes took in the wall of trees on either side – she had no room to veer either right or left out of the oncoming vehicle's way. She slammed on her brakes and turned the car so the passenger's side was to the oncoming car. The sound of her car's screeching brakes and tires skidding on the wet pavement shattered the immense silence that had been pressing in on Jade all the way on the road. Suddenly, as her car spun out of control towards the oncoming car, images flashed across her mind - images of her family and friends and clips of her life flashing past like a slideshow that was sped up.

A huge blow hit the car, and it seemed like an immense weight was thrown on Jade; the last thing she saw was a waterfall of glass cascading down on her before everything went black, and the immense weight was lifted off her as she seemed to float away into complete and utter darkness.

Wailing sirens. Flashing and flickering blue and red lights. Glass scattered on the floor. People ran and gathered around the car. They called for help.

Ambulance. Blood. She was on the verge of death...
