Jumping Blindly

Ivory looked around the new world.

I'm outside, but.. where outside?..

Everything around her was larger and so much louder then it was in her prison inside the lab. Flying vehicles and other means of transportation soared across the paved road, ever so often an older car with wheels flew through from the midst of the hovering ones.

Turning her gaze from the bustling world, her eyes met the silent shadows of the alley where she was crouched. The unnatural feeling of eyes burning her new fur. Ivory felt the fur along her spine bristle with unease. Whatever was in the alley,                                                                                            It doesn't seem happy I'm here..

She recoiled as a sudden drop of water landed upon her head, weaving through the fur to her skin. Shaking herself to rid of the on coming drops, she looked at the darkening clouds.

Her ears flattened against her skull as a sudden rumble of thunder  vibrated through the air. No please, Not now..

Ivory's brown eyes darted around desperately for a place to keep her dry from the rain. Her eyes fell upon a cardboard box beside a large dumpster. Hesitating a bit, she slowly moved toward the possible shelter.

The box was old and looked ready to melt if it got wet from the coming rain and the dumpster seemed to low to climb under.

Ivory gave a wail as more drops of the chilling cold water fell from the angry clouds above the city. Not having a choice, she ran deeper into the alley trying to find shelter.

"Psst! Over 'ere fuzz brain!" Something hissed and caused Ivory to freeze in her tracks.

"He-hello?" Ivory stammered looking around, unable to find the source of the voice.

"Junk bin!"

She looked toward a silver trashcan similar to the one she hid behind near the front of the alley. The head of a tabby was poked from the top of its open lid.

"Yer gonna be drowned like a rat in the river! Get over 'ere!" He snapped and disappeared back into the walls of the cold metal.

Ivory ran over and looked up toward the lip of the bin, "I can't jump that..!"

The head of the tabby reappeared looking quite sour, "Course yeh can! I've seen kits jump higher then this."

The drops of rain began to fall faster and splattered all over Ivory.

Taking a deep breath and trying to ignore the piercing cold water run down her back, she leapt up higher than she planned and nearly fell off the can when teeth grabbed the scruff of her neck and dragged her into the bin.

"Goodness. Yeh act like them Pet-pets." He snapped and turned down a small hole that broke through the metal of the trashcan. "'Mon "

Ivory slowly nodded and followed through the hole.

The hole led into a small tunnel encased within dirt and concrete.

"W-where are we going.?" She finally managed to ask after what seemed like forever.

"Well, Yeh was banging around the Bin-rows like a wanderin' 'airball so yeh weren't 'ard to find." The Tabby mumbled.

Ivory shook herself trying to understand what he was saying. Have I got water in my ears..? Or is that just how he talks?"

The tomcat stopped in his tracks and turned his green eyes toward her, "Meh name's Dust. An Yer's? " he asked, his rough voice a bit softer now.

"Ivory" she mewed, taken aback from his sudden change in tone.

Dust examined her a bit before walking on through the tunnel, "Dun get many visitors down 'ere. Boss 'eard yeh banging aroun' and sent meh after yeh. In meh opinion, I saved yeh life." He huffed, a glint of amusement in his voice.

Ivory's head was spinning. Boss? There are more cats down here?!

Was I accepted..? Or am I just a prisoner again?
