Watching Professionals (Steve Harrington)

Using the prompt: "It's a pleasure to watch professionals at work."

"It's a pleasure to watch professionals at work."

Steve spun around in a 360, trying to find the source of the voice. His eyes landed on Dustin, and he came to a halt, fully facing the boy. A look of annoyance took over Steve's face as the women he was talking to disappeared from view.

"What do you want, Henderson?"

"Oh, I just came to watch the master of flirting at work, and for some ice-cream... but mostly the ice-cream."

Steve sighed. "It's the hat. Regulation is so stupid."

"Rules are rules." Dustin reminded with a shrug.

"It's my best feature, Henderson! It's totally throwing everything off." Steve complained, adjusting the hat on his head.

Dustin smirked, acknowledging Steve's mental breakdown.

Steve sighed, running his hand along his face. "What'll it be, kid?"

"The regular."

Steve picked up a cone and piled several scoops of chocolate and mint on top. He covered the frozen treat with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, sprinkles and a cherry before handing it to the awaiting teen.

"Thanks, Steve."

Steve simply nodded, resting his chin on his folded arms as he leaned on the counter. The door opened and two girls walked in, approaching the counter. Steve stood up, a smirk forming instantly. "Hello, ladies." He greeted. "What'll it be?"

The two women exchanged glances.

"I'll have a scoop of mint and a scoop of chocolate on a cone." The first spoke up, pointing at the cartons with her pale hand.

Steve picked up the scoop, placing the two servings on the cone. "Any toppings?"

"Whipped cream and chocolate syrup."

Steve poured a generous amount of both on the ice-cream, though was careful not to spill any. He handed the red-head the cone before turning to the other woman. "And what'll you have?" He asked, an eyebrow cocked.

"A scoop of vanilla and a scoop of chocolate in a bowl, please." The brunette answered.

Steve set to work. "Any toppings?"

"Whipped cream, chocolate syrup and a cherry, please." She answered, turning to the red-head who was trying to eat her ice-cream before it melted and dripped down her arm.

Steve placed the desired toppings on the ice-cream and handed it to the brunette. "Your total comes to-"

"Keep the change." The brunette told him, handing him a $20.

Steve stared down at the bill, a look of confusion on his face. "Oh. Thanks. Now listen ladies-"

"See ya later, Steve." The brunette told him, walking out, her companion hot on her tail.

The red-head turned around and walked backwards out the door. "Thanks for the ice-cream!" She called, turning back around.

Steve was speechless for a few moments.

"Wow."

Steve looked to his right, seeing Dustin sitting there, melted ice-cream all over his face.

"What just happened?" Dustin asked, finishing off his cone.

"I wish I knew, man." He wiped the counter, feeling fidgety and wanting something to do. "How'd they know my name?"

"It says 'Steve' on your shirt." Dustin pointed out.

"Oh. Right." Steve rested his chin on his hand as he placed his elbow on the counter, watching the door.

Dustin shook his head, standing. "I'll see you later, Steve. Thanks." He said, beginning to walk out.

"You know you still have to pay for that, right?" Steve reminded.

"For which? The ice-cream or the show?" Dustin asked, walking out and closing the door behind him.

Steve sighed as the shop became quiet once more. He groaned, placing his head in his hands. "Stupid hat." He mumbled.
